Ok. So it’s here. I took lots of pics for you guys, and most of them side by side with my .357 with Skinner Express and Patridge front. I dealt with Kimberly at RPP, and she is a fantastic lady. We chatted for about 30 mins while I was gathering pre-order information. I believe their CS is similar to Henry’s. They will make sure you are happy!

On to the pics.

1- Finished install with closest thing to a pink towel I could find...
2- Pile of goodies! (Kimberly gave me a hat and .45-70 patch as a bonus).

Money shots:

It was impossible to get the camera focused on both front and rear, for obvious reasons.

So, you’ve read this far, now for my conclusions... Both sights are very well made. There is definitely “more going on” with the RPP over Skinner’s, and that’s not a bad thing. The design of RPPs is very well thought out, and gives you a more precise adjustment. RPPs parts are definitely works of art.

I haven’t shot the RPPs yet, and likely won’t have a chance for a few weeks. But my thought is (shared by my 30 year old apprentice who is also a target shooter and hunter) that the RPP sights will give you an edge for accuracy at the range, and in a hunting situation where the light is low (I’ll test this at dusk tonight and report back), or where you have a few seconds to line up that tricky shot. We both felt that the Skinners could possibly have an advantage for quick shots in better light. There is just less to distract your eye, and if it’s a fast shot in good light, the fibre optics combined with the cloverleaf design take a second or so for your eye to sort out.

The thing to me that really helps the RPP win favor is the wings to protect the peep. If Andy milled those into his Express sights, I’m not sure I would have tried the RPP. The peep is just really exposed on Skinner’s sight, and I worry it will get knocked or bent at some point. That’s probably a bit of a paranoia, but chit does happen when you are sliding around on wet moss covered rocks and roots here in the PNW.

The long and short of it is, Ranger Point Precision makes great products, and I would recommend them to anyone.

Excellent write up on a nice looking peep-sight, Red. If all our Henrys weren't already equipped with Skinners, I think we'd be trying out one of RPP's cloverleaf peeps to see how it works with a Lyman globe. One of the benefits that RPP advertises is that their cloverleaf peep is lower than Skinner's offering - did you find that to be true?

There’s always room for one more Henry Tad! As far as height, my Marlin 1895GS is the one rifle that RPP ships sights with a shim and longer screws as the front sight is dovetailed on a ramp. Apparently to keep it planing correctly the shim is needed. I think it is shorter than the Express when not using the shim. If you look at the side pics it might give you a better idea?

Installed the clover leaf on my BB rifle. Fine for my eyes (@64 years) out to 30 yards. Installed very quickly, no problems. Hind sight being 20 - 20 , I find myself focusing a little too much on the "cloverleaf" on the rear as opposed to the front bead. I would order a plain peep sight if I could do it over again. I hate putting a scope on a lever action rifle but if I'm ever going to hit that tin can a 100 yards..... I hate getting old!

Ranger Point sells a standard peep aperture that you could install in that sight if you want to give it a try? They just show it as an option when ordering the sight, but I’m sure if you call and ask, they would set you up with one. The various sizes of aperture are available on their website.

Really love mine , installed it on my 45-70 my eyesight is starting to fade enough close up that buckhorns are a no go for me . Sight is very easy to adjust , works fine with factory front sight also . The cloverleaf kinda fades out and it gives me a fuzzy light shaded reference point with my eyesight. The fiber optic dots really help for quick sighting . The actual opening not counting the cloverleaf is .083 , the cloverleaf doesn't take up any field of view really .
My wife love mine so much that i ordered her a set also for Her Big Boy 45colt i just bought for her birthday present. They work great on that rifle also

I finally managed to put some rounds through my .45-70 with the RPP Cloverleaf this past Friday. It was under pretty much ideal conditions. Got up a 1:30 am, loaded the truck and drove 3 hours over two 5,000’ passes in rain, then drove 1/2 mile off the freeway in to an old gravel pit near one of my hunting spots. Parked the truck at 5:15 am in pitch dark, but left the light bar on. Walked out 100 paces, stood up piece of 1/8” mdf with 1.5” masking tape squares. (This was because my apprentice was with me and had a new scope mounted on his Model 70, and had yet to fire a single shot). I walked 50 back towards the truck, and let one rip...

Figured that was good enough for a deer.

I didn’t adjust anything. That’s as I mounted it. I figured being a bit high at 50 yards is perfect for .45-70, which has the trajectory of a punted football. The Cloverleaf acts a bit like a ghost ring, but if you focus your eye rearward, you can get the “crosshairs” to come into play. I opted for the green FOs in the rear, and red FO front. That also doesn’t pop unless you focus on them.
