ZERO 130 gr. FMJ Range Report

This is a new .357 bullet for me. It costs $.10 each shipped to my door in quantities of 1K, and because I'm still waiting for a shipment of 158JSPs, I bought them to experiment. This is not a common weight for .357, so I had to do a bit of extrapolating to determine my load data, but I finally settled on what I think is a reasonable, but low charge of Win231/HP38 with a WSPM primer.

With my H006M .357 Brass Big Boy, I shoot off-hand, standing, using the factory semi-buckhorn sight. I shoot indoors at 75 feet.

With my Uberti SmokeWagon, I shoot at 25 feet.

This session was an hour long. I shot 100 rounds, five at a time, alternating between my rifle and my revolver.

I like the bullet and the load, especially in the Henry. I'm still trying to find the aiming sight for the SmokeWagon, but I'm getting better at it, so I may eventually figure it out.

Nonetheless, I had a great time at the range today. Both guns were flawless, my targets were acceptable, and I had a huge amount of fun shooting my own handloads in my own guns.

Thanks for the report. I have some 130 gr Remington FMJ bullets. You are correct, there is no load data for that weight bullet. I did the calculations to interpolate a load, but never got around to actually loading any of them. I have been lucky to find plenty of 158 gr, both hi-tek coated and lead, at my LGS, so I don't when when I will actually try to load and shoot them.

It is so much fun to shoot your own reloads. I may run out and have to revert to factory ammo though. Summer is here and the reloading equipment is in my daughter and son-in-law's garage. It is heated in the winter, but not air conditioned in the summer and temps are forecast to be in the 90s by tomorrow with high humidity. Yuuuuuck! I think summer is here.
