It was a good post to bring back. Just before I left my first agency, another of our motor patrol officer was working a funeral escort, and had stopped for intersection control. After the long line of mourners cleared the intersection, he accelerated up the line to move back to the escort position at the head of the line, to be ready at the next intersection. SOP...

A car on the left side of the four lane was waiting to cross and saw a gap in the line of mourners, and in violation of State Law, cut thru the line to zip across the four lane rather than waiting for the procession to pass. Our officer's view of the vehicle was blocked by a van and a pick up in the lineup, and several in the procession blew their horn at the crossing driver since they saw the Officer coming up in the right lane. He flipped them off, pulled thru in front of the motor officer who struck his vehicle in the right front quarter panel.

The Officer was severely injured in the crash, spending months in the hospital, and months in therapy. The Chief told him they had already replaced his patrol bike, it was equipped, tuned, and waiting. He went back to motor patrol as soon as he was returned to full duty.

I don't care if it is a Vespa, it's still a "bike" to me. Happy to be back in the saddle and cruising in the open air again!

One difference I've noticed so far is I don't get glares, I get smiles and waves!

I get a few waves now and again. Even some from guys on Harleys.Wife keeps asking me when and if Im going to sell the F6B. Na I still like ridin it. You gotta watch out for the cell phones but theres somethin about the chin in the wind and your knees in the breeze.

I love to ride as well, but have gotten a wake up call recently given the back surgery in my future and previously diagnosed cervical stenosis, ( severe ). If I ever went down, it would likely lead to my demise.
My son has been wanting a bike very badly. He will receive mine on his birthday.

I can still feel the open air and beauty of the mountain on my new 4-Wheeler, safely...no one else around or their distractions to worry about!

Can carry guns and ammo also. Stop, shoot and have lunch in the peace and quiet of nature.

I love riding 4 wheelers as well but the wife I know had different ideas and she loves the RV. Ours is to big to be packing it to the hills along with pulling 4 wheelers. If I had the cabin in the mountains I would do like you are Mark. I sold all of my 4 wheelers and sold my 2014 Ford F-150. Just dont need all that stuff to take care of.

Cracked ribs and a dislocated collar bone.
Been lucky, I guess.

With all due respect Randy, it's HOW you choose to ride a 4-Wheeler. You are in control of your own destiny, unlike the wild west on the road. Please don't take offense, but riding amongst idiots these days is a whole lot more dangerous than riding a quiet trail up the mountain.
Don't get me wrong, I love my bike, however, personally, for reasons previously mentioned, I have to go this route.
Your bike is beautiful and I would have a very hard time giving it up if I had to.
Hope you understand where I'm coming from.

Mark no offense taking, and I know what your talking about for sure.
Mine was kind of a freak accident.
Was crossing a large ditch, just as I was starting up the opposite side...
Well the throttle sticks, I fall off the 4 wheeler takes off up the side.
Then falls back on top of me.
Thought I was going to die, felt like an Elephant had stepped on me.

But yes trail riding is a lot safer and can be very enjoyable also.
Kinda like my ole horse, loved the days he and I would just meander around the country side.

Thanks Randy! Guess your accident could have been worse by the sound of it. Glad it was not.
I DO plan on one more ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway before I let my bike go.
I have loved riding, but my personal risks are higher than the average person.
As for You and others; keep on enjoying and keep the shiny side up!☺

As for me, I hope I able to ride a couple more years.
Getting worse all the time, and I did just survive one a couple months ago.
But I have almost been hit 4 or 5 times this year in my trunk by distracted driving.
Be safe and always keep an eye on the idiots around ya.
