I have been doing lots of research on revolvers and see a new model Uberti 1873 Colt copy called the "Horseman". I have a local Uberti dealer who can supply a good selection from their catalog including this one. It has a couple of updates; coil spring and transfer bar safety so you can load 6 safely. Comes in several calibers incl my .45 Colt.
Have any of you seen this model or know anyone who has one?

They also have a 1873 pistol with a short stroke now for SASS matches .... It is a Uberti and all there guns a put together correctly . It's not a Ruger where you must it back to get it built correctly .

It may even have an octagonal barrel? Hard to tell on the Uberti website, but some reviews mention it.

Anyone ever shot the Uberti 1875 Outlaw? I really like the looks of these old timers...but I don't want to mess around with cylinders that pop out to load, or levers that fold down, etc. I want to load like a regular Colt style revolver but this gun looks real good to me.

I hear from some people that the grip is not as comfortable as the 1873 Cattleman and tougher to sight too?

I like that octagonal barrel. It's different.

I also like that outlaw Remington copy. That was the gun that "Preacher" had in the Clint Eastwood remake of Shane if I remember correctly.

I am spending endless hours researching SA revolvers to the point of information overload. I have it narrowed down to:
- 5 1/2" blued barrel with wood grips
- same caliber as my Henry obviously, .45C
- Uberti Horseman cuz I like the transfer bar safety, and it looks almost identical to the 1873 Cattleman
- Uberti Cattleman 1873 cuz it just is a very cool gun and reviews are generally good, and the load 5 with hammer on empty chamber is traditional/historically correct
- Ruger New Vaquero cuz it has transfer bar safety, and reviews are good. But it is also over $1000 here, and the Uberti's can be had for about $650

headache.....I go for my handgun test on June 12th.

TX: I appreciate your input as I think you've likely forgotten more about handguns than I'll ever know. Almost everything I read about Uberti guns supports what you are saying. I'd say I'm about 98% decided on a Uberti, it's just the model now to think about. I'm not likely to SASS or CAS so I'm more inclined to a nice historical period correct recreational shooter. Thks.

It sounds like you have done your research well. I'd get the Horseman for the safety factor. If you want to be historically correct, just load five once in a while.

I've owned over 200 Ruger SA guns in my life and they when from the best to the worst in my opinion .These where the last bunch of Rugers I owned . 2 of my 44-40 was sent back to Ruger where they replaced barrels and cylinder under warranty . The 357 mag the firing pin was too short so I replaced it . All 10 of my 45 long Colt [ not pic ] I owned in the last 15 yrs I had to ream all the cylinders to make them the same size . I won't get into the SA Ruger 22 they are a mess too . The last 6 Uberti I've owned have been perfect and they keep making on improvements on the Colt design weak points like the Horseman . Personally if I need more then 5 rds I will carry my Glock .
