Re: Switching To DISH
still learning .... I was confused by the names given to several of their components .... early on some Big Wig at DISH went to Australia and really like it .... their Wally is a regular receiver, it cannot record programs .... their Hopper is a DVR .... their Joey is a wireless receiver that allows you to connect multiple TV to a Hopper
the only Wally (receiver) they offer for an RV can't record programs .... BUT they do have an external drive (similar to that used with computers) that can be plugged into the Wally .... they charge $100 for a Wally and $100 for the external drive
I need another cup of coffee ...

Re: Switching To DISH
I spoke to DISH this morning to upgrade our system. To upgrade to a Hopper 3 from a Hopper 2 is a $100.00 one time fee which when I said I was a Vet and a Senior the lady cut in half to $50.00. They will come install it Monday morning. That's pretty quick.
Our bill will increase by $3.00 a month is all.
We will get the Hooper 3 and a new Joey. The Hopper 3 has much more DVR capability that the 2, and we also get a voice activated remote.
The lady was very nice.
We have been with Dish for 18 years now.

Re: Switching To DISH
They've had that offer on the table for a long time. If your friends choose to sign up tell them you recommended Dish to them.
Tell Dish that.

Re: Switching To DISH
one of several reasons I don't like to stay in motels when we are away from home or use park cable when we are in a campground is by the time if figure out the TV channel numbers we are moving on .... we've been with Direct for so long that remembering the numbers of the channels we use is pretty much automatic .... wonder how long it will take for me to get used to the numbers used by DISH .

Re: Switching To DISH
I've had Dish almost since they started up. Really like their DVR and Guide but am probably going to switch to strictly streaming services soon, will save close to $100 a month. I get my internet from a local ISP on a PUD provided fiber system, $50 a month for 100 Mbps down, 10 Mbps up. No land line for phone, have gone to cell phone only.fortyshooter wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2019 1:08 pmSo you folks on Dish TV....from whom do you get your internet service?

Re: Switching To DISH
Don't know about Direct but Dish has the option to select a list of your favorites and then that's all you have to look at.
I use it all the time.

Re: Switching To DISH
The Dish tech was here this afternoon. It took an hour and he climbed the roof and replaced the feed horns, switched out the switch box in the basement, installed both a Hopper 3 and a new Joey in my Man Cave. He also set everything up and gave me a lesson on the new voice activated remotes. The High Def is even better and everything is working just fine.
It cost me a one time fee of $50.00 and an extra $3.00 a month. The old tuner, or DVR would record 4 channels at once. The new one will record 16. This tuner also has a feature called "Sling". That means we can watch Dish on our I phones and using a Fire Stick to a TV anywhere we go.
We are pleased.

Re: Switching To DISH
great to hear .... they are supposed to be at our place tomorrow afternoon to install the equipment in our home .... the receiver for our camper is supposed to be delivered tomorrow .... we've already reset the camper's roof mounted dome antenna for DISH .... its my understanding that it will require a call to get it turned on .... still debating which portable dome antenna to order .... hope to figure that out and order it next week .... do you have any concerns about using the voice activated remote ..
.. I've heard stories that Google monitors the voice commands

Re: Switching To DISH
our issue with Direct wasn't with the picture we received .... it was with a major change in the type of signal they are going to send and the equipment they are going to force their customers like us to convert to

All voice activated devices monitor for voice commands. That's how they work. Question is do they listen to other things? I think Google might. Case in point.
About 2 weeks ago I was using Google Maps from my phone for turn by turn directions. I didn't 'start' the turn by turn immediately since I knew how to get where I was going half way. When I did 'start' Google maps it started giving me directions along the route I'd already passed. I said out loud "I'm already passed that sweetheart." Google responded with some sort of smart a$$ answer about being called sweetheart. Total surprise! I didn't know Google Maps could/would do that.
