Range Outing 8/1/2019

Post by Steve51 » Sat Aug 10, 2019 7:16 pm

Just now getting around to post about last range outing.

Took 3 rifles. A recently acquired 1975 Ruger M77 in .243 with Simmons 3 X 9 scope; My Henry .44 Brass Big Boy; and my Henry H001TM .22 Magnum.

I had earlier sighted in the Ruger .243 with Hornady Factory 75 grain JHP ammo at 100 yds. I wanted to see how my handloads with 38.5 gr. Varget under a Hornady 75 grain V-Max bullet would compare. I was quite satisfied with the results.

Next up I wanted to check my iron sights on the Big Boy Brass .44 at 50 yds. Was using my standard rifle load of a 240 grain XTP JHP over 19.6 grains of 2400.

Last of all I shot the Henry .22 magnum. I had been using iron sights and decided to put a Tasco 3 X 9 scope on this rifle. I have had this scope laying around for a while and was not using it. I tried the 3 different types of .22 mag ammo that I have on hand and was expecting some variance. Targets were at 50 yds. I was hoping for better accuracy with the scope. I checked back at the 50 yd targets I had shot with iron sights and to be honest did not see that the scope helped that much. I went back to iron sights on this rifle and if I try to scope it again, I will get a better quality scope.

All looks good, Steve.
I'm more into shooting 22s. So...think your 50-yard POIs look quite good, especially the 5-round group of CCI V-Max 30gr magnums (upper left).

Nice range work.👍

Looks good Steve. May I suggest the Nosler 70gr ballistic tip for the 243. Some IMR 4350 at about 44 to 45 grains. Give that a ride if you have any 4350.
