Well, my friends and support group..been smoke free for 48 hours now. Has not been easy I must admit.
The only smoke to pass through my lungs now, would be if my house were to catch fire. Sorry, what a horrible thought.😐
I will admit, so far, this HAS been a battle. Just keep looking at my list of reasons to quit every time I have a craving.
I HAVE to succeed!

Remember that you have already succeeded with the physical nicotine addiction, Mark. That's a mere 24 hours or so. You've doubled that now. :D

So, the head stuff is what's left. Add this to your thinking, and your encouragement list. With two days gone by, you are also on the path to clearing your lungs of all that smoke you've breathe in. That takes longer, but it also is very doable.

You WILL join the club with the rest of us, who are non-smokers. Many have joined. Come on along with us; it's worth it :!:

The nicotine is out of your system in a couple of days but most articles say the actual withdrawal symptoms will last longer so keep up the good work.

https://www.webmd.com/smoking-cessation ... symptoms#3

Also, even though the physical addiction is gone the craving for a smoke can come back for a long time so have some mints or gum or something available to help. Like I said, it's been 3 years for me but I still get an occasional desire for a smoke. It does get easier, I can now be around smokers and it's not too bad. Recently a friend accidently left a partial pack on my coffee table and even though I knew they were there all night and was tempted I left them alone.

https://www.verywellmind.com/craving-ci ... do-2824897

They say cigarette addiction is as bad as an addiction to opioids or etc. but I think in a way it's worse, way too easy to hop in your car, drive to 7-11 and buy a pack.

Anyway, congrats and keep it up.

Thank you Dave. Those links are very informative and helpful, especially withdrawal symptoms. Have been getting some mild headaches and was going to call the doctor. Reading those links explains that though.
I appreciate your time to reply, and all the info. Gonna share it with the wife.👍

I few months from now you are going to be so proud of yourself. Believe me it is well worth the battle. I have only been smoke free since May 28th and am enjoying it very much NOW that I have succeeded. Keep it up! One day at a time. The urges to smoke will get easier to get past each time you think about it. Then pretty soon you stop thinking about it.

Thank you so much Lyman! I still need all the support I can get. Have had some really strong cravings these last three days, but have managed to ward them off. BTW...before I forget, congrats on YOUR success!
I have found that the most effective technique so far has been part of the suggestions from the links Dave posted. Breathe deeply whenever there is an urge. Maybe it's because it mimics smoking...dunno..seems to help though.
Also; at this time of the night, seems the best thing to do is to just go to sleep. As RR said in a previous post; one day at a time. :)

Its easy to cave and return to smoking. I correlate that to quitting when you think you cant do a certain part of a workout. Its easy to quit. Be the stronger one and push on no more cigarettes ever. You will be glad you did.

Thanks! Another little trick that I used was when I was having a bad craving I would take small sips of water till the urge passed. I guess that hand to mouth thing kicked in and helped with the urge. I learned that one from a coworker.

Sugar-free gum, Tic-Tacs, etc. Fruit! Celery and carrot sticks.

At some point(s), it's an "oral thing," so might as well get some healthy stuff to deal with it!

Funny Evan, was just sitting here thinking of such things. I think I'll put it on my to do list for today. Have to go out anyway.
Appreciate the suggestion. Focus will be on healthy and you're right about the oral thing...thanks for the extra push!!
