Getting low on 44 mag handloads as well.

I BET YOU DO RUN OUT QUICK WITH ONLY FOUR OF EACH ON HAND :D  ;)

Just kidding. Those look great. What type of bullet are you using in the 45-70. Looks like a coated bullet of some sort from the pic.

Processing some 9mm brass today, meaning, I'm uniforming the primer pockets and the flash holes. Checking the primer pockets with a Go - No Go gauge. The gauge lets me know if the flash hole is out of spec, for example: loose primer pocket and that I'm cutting each primer pocket hole the same depth.

The flash hole is cut using a tool that cut's the flash hole the same on each brass casing and it deburr's the inside of the flash hole. By doing this, it cut's down flyers and helps the powder have a more uniform burn. When I say flyer, I mean, the round does not land were you aimed for it to land.

Myself, I'm a big bore guy (45acp, 357 Magnum and 44 Magnum) but I use this 9mm ammo to help my wife when she shoots with me. I have a match grade Springfield Armory (XD-9) 9mm that I built for her and when she shoot's it, I hand load ammo for it.

That's me. Except for the gentleman part! Big Boy brass not steel.

That was fixed a while back and haven't had a problem since. Many rounds through the gun since then.

New here at the board but not to reloading. I just finished a bunch of for accuracy, lower power .45 colt loads for my Henry Steel .45 colt. 5 each from start to higher end in .2 gr. increments, with 300 gr. rf and swc bullets cast from cowws. Powders used so far are BE-86 and Unique for the 300s and then a few 252 swc with A#5 and Red Dot. Weather has been all rain this week end but I see some beautiful weather ahead. Then it's out back to the range.

Last few days I've been cleaning brass. I've shot up most of the ammo for 44 mag and 45/70 that I had made. One more batch to run through the vibrator and all is clean. Then I can make some more!!!!

One of the 300 gr 45/70 coated bullets somehow did a long cycle in my cleaner with a load of cases. Looks like it just went in. No difference at all. Tough coating. Nice unintentional test.

I need to pick up some more brass and bullets.

I have several thousand pieces of starline brass on hand and if I had to do it again, I would. I have 1000 44 Special and 1000 44 Magnum of starline brass on hand that I've lost count of how many times I've reloaded them. I just inspect them, clean them and inspect them again and then hand load them again. I gonna keep doing this until they show signs of failure. Squatch buy you some, you wont regret it one bit.

I already have some Starline. I can match those numbers with empty brass I've been saving over the years. But I do intend to buy a bit more 44 mag and 45/70 brass. I just ordered some bullets for both from a couple of different companies. Gun show tomorrow I intend to pick up a couple of bottles of powder that I don't have. That and a few more cases and I'm good for a while.

I have a suspicion that there may be another run on ammo as Nov approaches. Especially with all the anti-gun rhetoric be thrown about by candidates. I hope to have what I need long before that happens. Not an ammo hoarder or anything. Just like to shoot for under $1 a rd. Prices got a little stupid last time this happened.

Sized and decapped a bunch of 45LC cases. Sat down to trim some and about 30 pieces in I got the trimmer pilot stuck solidly in the mouth of a nickle plated Starline case... and it's still in there.
I think I'll give up for now, have a beverage, and take another crack at it tomorrow ;) :D

Ouch!

I'm not reloading today but will be again soon. I just received a selection of new bullets to try out.
I'm still trying some different lead bullets so I got some samples of these in both plain lead and coated. Pretty happy with their coated 45/70 bullets of the same hardness.

I also restocked on the 44 Berry's bullets that have worked out well.

Plus a couple of samples of new ones to try.

I now have plenty to keep me busy loading and testing for a while! I need to load some 45/70 soon. The new front sight has come in for the 45/70 brass and I don't have much to sight it in with. So I'll probably start with those. it's supposed to start raining again for the next couple of days so I'll probably head for the bench when it does.

Once you get it out, I'd chuck it up in a drill and take some fine sand paper to the out side of the pilot. I'd only take about .002" off the OD of the pilot.

Was getting close to being out. My Marlin 308 mx and new AR like that powder.
Still working on the ar but can say that a very near max load and a 170 gr pro hunter are the cats meow in MY mx.

You will love the Hodogon CFE powder. I shoot allot of it in my AR-15 rifle. I even use allot of the CFE Pistol powder.

Check this thread. http://henryrifleforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=356

The only handloading I've been doing since I started this winter is very light cowboy rounds using Unique. Both 44 mag and 45/70. The load data link is in the 1st post on that thread. So far I've been using 10 grs of Unique behind 300 and 405 MBC coated hard cast rnfp. Speeds and targets in that link. For This round I'll probably just load 50 rds for sighting in the new front sight. 300 gr but bump up to 11 grs powder. I've been enjoying these rounds. Very pleasant to shoot and accuracy at 50 yds seems nice so far. I have some other powders and bullets to try.

Once I'm satisfied with my sights then I'll experiment more with some hotter stuff. But It's nice to shoot 50-60 rds of 45/70 with a brass butt plate and not even think about recoil. :D

If you click on the load data link read all the hows and why's and also the link they provide on pistol powders in rifles. I found it very interesting. So far my results have matched theirs closely in both calibers.

I ended up loading 47 of those 300gr torpedoes. I'm 3 cases shy of having 50 with that headstamp. I need to order some more 45/70 brass.
Anyway I stuck with the 10 gr load as that has worked well so far. Hope to head to the range today and get the new sight worked out finally.
