I took two center fire Savage single shots to the range yesterday. One was a Model 12 BVSS-S in 223 Rem. and a 112 BVSS-S in 220 Swift. A little wind stirring but not a steady wind that you couldn't pick your shots when it was not to bad. I shot the 223 first with a load of 26 Grs. H4895 and a 50 gr. Hornady V-max and it shot them well. (Bottom left target) They have been good in other 223 rifles I have but never tried them in this one. Further testing with them with other powders will be done in the future. Next was the Savage in 220 Swift (my favorite rifle/caliber combination) and it likes the RL 15 powder and the 52 Berger bullet not so much with the Speer bullet. First target upper right is three shots from the Swift. Then I left it cool while I shot a CZ 22 at pieces of clay targets and other things. Then I moved the adjustments right and shot four at the upper left. Shot the 22 some more while the Swift was in the shade cooling. It was 90* and cooling was slow. Then three bottom right target with the 52 Speer. Not real good but they would have hit a penny but more out on the edges. Later after cooling I shot 6 pennies with the Swift. Held at the very bottom of the pennies and hit them but up at the top and almost didn't hit the last one. I allowed 2-3 min. between shots to help with the barrel not heating up to bad.
Not to bad a day shooting with the center fires but the 223 will need other things tried as this one is new to me and haven't fooled with it much yet. It's just a whole lot easier to shoot 22 rim fires than to sit loading ammo.

Still was in the penny with three shots with the Speer bullets.

Pennies with the 220 Swift

The two rifles. 223 Rem. in the front and Swift in the rear. The 223 will get the bigger bolt handle later today.
