Colt SAA

Was checking out the local Pawn Shop as I do frequently online. They have 4 Colt SAA in various barrel lengths in 44 special. All of them are unfired. Would love to have one but at 2K I think I will pass for now.

I'm no longer teaching classes, so I have four training guns I "could" sell that would cover it, but I hate to let anything go these days unless it's to someone I know well. Guess it's out of my range too.

They also have a couple of the Colt New Frontier models. They are in 44 special also. Same asking price. I think they might have these for a while longer as they have had the SAA for a little while now.

I would live to have a nickel plated Colt SAA in 45 with wood grips and 5-1/2” barrel! Like you guys, I can’t afford it. I’d also love to have a Colt 1908 pocket hammerless 380. Also too expensive. Oh, well. Something to dream about I guess.

A local pawn shop has a couple SAAs in their gun case priced similarly - they have been there for a long time!

That's actually a good price for unfired SAAs. I've seen some well-used ones got for closer to 3K at local auctions. If anything, Colt collectors are even more rabid that pre-64 Winchester collectors.

I have shot some of these true Colt single actions and have inspected many others. While they shot well, like any Colt or Colt clone single action should, they did not shoot any better than my Uberti clones. As for construction quality, Colt QC has been notorious for its inconsistency over the years, so you absolutely need to be diligent about inspection before spending that much money for the sake of it saying Colt on the gun. Honestly, if I had the money and wanted something of impeccable quality, commensurate with the money I was spending, I'd sooner spend it on a Standard Mfg Colt clone or go with a Freedom Arms.

This is correct! Also it can be difficult finding parts if needed for the SAAs - and this also includes Colt DA revolvers as well.
There are even some who don't recommend shooting any Colt revolvers more than occasionally due to this - as well as the difficulty of finding someone who can work on them.
Even the Python which is a large frame, heavy gun has some internals that are actually pretty frail and difficult to replace.
With regard to DAs Smith & Wesson gets the vote for durability, ease of repair and parts availability.
About the only real Colt I would ever own would be a 1911.

RR I have one its just not in that RR caliber. Its a Freedom Arms in 41 mag with that 7 1/2 inch barrel.

Looking at 100 year old revolvers, I love to show my Colt 32 Police Positive. It shows a 1926 manufacture date. And it performs as new.

This was my dads survival vest weapon. He flew B52s during the Cold War. I don't know it's history before that. I just know he trusted it for his life. Good enough for me.

This revolver has been checked by a smith, and is in sound shape. The 32 S&W Long is a capable round.

These 'old' revolvers deserve our respect and care.
I love that it is a family Heirloom. I love the Colt action. It is very accurate. I will keep and shoot it forever. Until it needs to go to my son.

That's a fine vintage Colt and a 32, as well. Don't see many in 32 and, I agree, the 32 S&W Long is an under-rated cartridge. Thanks for sharing.

Wow! I too would love to have a 5 1/2” SAA. Especially one chambered in .44 Special, but that’s too rich for my blood.

The only Colt I own at the moment is a King Cobra from the early 80's.
I'm the second owner and have had it since '84.
Wish I still had that little Frontier Scout 22.
