Note to Everybody:
I made the first step this morning toward working out this issue. CT_Shooter called me early-on. He had another option that I would have never thought of.

Since I ordered this pistol from BGS, and it didn't require the usual FFL paperwork, he suggested I contact BGS to ask if they would do something with a defective product. Chatted with their CS rep, told her the problem, and she agreed with me that I would send her the photo and Henry comments on the issues. She then would check with her supervisor, and call me back.

I was pulling the info together to send her an email, and she almost immediately called me. Without any info from me other than my phone chat with her, all is approved to ship this Trapper back and they will ship another one to me. She sent me a shipping label, I packed the gun, and just got back from the downtown KCKS UPS office.

Sometimes it seems like I've spent more time shipping guns to all points of the compass than I spend time shooting!!

OK for now. When I get the second gun, I'll pick up my posts again.....hoping to shoot and not ship.

Now ya got me curious, since I just bought the Trapper. You're "not a fan of Traditions," which sounds leaning toward maybe a manufacturer issue? If it is something specific to my pistol, I wouldn't mind knowing what to be on the lookout for. Yeah, I know there are the two-sides-of-a coin. Generally, the Trapper reviews or evals I've found have been . Thanks.

When the new gun comes in make sure you examine it very carefully.
Make sure all wood to metal fit is reasonably
Tight and any metal to metal fit is as tight as well with no gaps - especially in the area that originally started this!
Make sure the nipple is aligned vertically with the hammer when it is down on it.
Also make sure the lock operates properly with reasonable trigger pull but do NOT dry fire it!
Bring or ask for a penlight to examine the bore.

I did some of above with the first pistol, but looks like a good list. And from the issues I've already seen, will be even more particularly with the second pistol. Some comments on the checked items:

✔This didn't look right to me on first pistol. Was hard to see into the "drum" (correct description?) at end of hammer, but the nipple appeared not to be centered and not flush with the hammer sitting on top of it.
✔✔Never really checked this out. I did read in the instruction manual, as you said, "do NOT dry fire it."
✔✔✔I have a Mini-Maglight LED flashlight with adjustable beam. I used it to examine the bore, and it lit everything up almost as if it were daylight! Could clearly see the grooves and lands to the solid metal breech at the back of the barrel. In fact, it looked like there was some powder residue there. Wonder if this pistol is shot at the manufacturer and they do a quick clean before boxing it?

I noticed this as well - but it was due to the barrel not being fitted correctly.

I for one have not been much of a fan of Traditions.

Back in the 'day' Thompson/Center made excellent BP rifles & pistols .
The original 'Patriot' pistols were beautiful and are still selling for premium prices.
They had a globe style front sight with a fully adjustable rear similar to a rifle.
Even my hand me down T/C Renegade that was horribly abused came out not too bad after a long and careful restoration and shoots excellently and will be making some noise in my neighborhood on the 4th - but with powder and toilet paper wadding only !!
The Renegade is an excellent rifle and the very early models had barrels made by Douglas Supreme and are very rare and sought out.
Mine is from a bit later but 'wears' a Sharon Barrel and was as well a distinguished manufacturer of rifle barrels back in 'the day'.

As Ed mentioned back in the day TC made quality Blackpowder guns and stood behind them with there warranty. Ive owned quite a few TC BP rifles and pistols. I sold a Hawken recently with a 58 cal Green Mountain drop in barrel in it. I was never much of a fan of the CVA guns either they were just poorly put together and there locks were junk. I have several BP rifles now that have been built by John Bergmann of Tenn. He does great work and he is also a great guy. I also have some rifles built in the 70's by Green River Rifle works. There rifles to this day are highly sought after and were built by people who had pride in what they do something you do not find much of anymore. I just bought a new 5th wheel and I dont care what you pay for an RV of any kind they throw those things together. Some of the things that are done I am shaking my head at wondering if the guy fell off RR horse on the way to work that morning.

Ed showed up in a gun club I was a member of. Was on consignment. Maybe the guy is like me and has to much going on to get to shoot as much as I want. But Ive only had it about 2 years and I got it for a really good price so I bought it. Thought if nothing else I might make a little on it if I sold it.

Not a purdy as your PAT but it came back to 'life' fairly well - after a lot of work!
.54 Renegade with a Sharon barrel.
Pre 1978 as that is when Sharon barrel went out of business.

Well you might want to check what they are going for online - you might be surprised.....
Hopefully your 'really good price' IS - and you can make a couple bucks on it!
I recently sold an old, beat up CVA .45 Kentucky (non-shooting and in pieces) for a $100!

Nothing Wrong with a Renegade they were great guns have owned a few of those also. 54 and 58 cal. Had a 50 caliber that was rusty and sent it to Bobby Hoyt well know for redoing BP barrels. He took it out to 58 caliber.
