Yes, I saw that on our local news...sad for sure! Exactly why I rarely ride any more.

Awful, that's for sure. Even scarier when you see the pic, which shows that the crash scene appears to be on a fairly straight, flat stretch of road. And the story talks about it being only about 500 ft from the place where the bikers were staying.

I also saw it on the news. I saw one quick picture and no need to see anymore. Horrible accident. It wouldn't stop me from riding, but at the same time I don't mind that I have retired from it. Any word on the cause? Sounds like it was the truck's.

Haven't heard any updates, but I did see where someone has helped to raised about $163,000 for the families.

Won't stop me from riding either.
But you do have to watch yourself and the other people.

I have not stopped riding completely, however, it does take a bit of the joy out of it having to be even that much more alert. Unfortunately, as you all know, people do whatever they want to on the roads these days and cell phone use/texting is at epidemic levels.

Same here. About a year ago I had had enough and gave my last bike to my son-in-law.

The guy driving the truck had a possibly Russian sounding name as did the company he was driving for. I just read he had been seen swerving as though the trailer wasn't balanced earlier. I assumed driver induced oscillation from the way it was described. Even his employer hadn't been able to contact him as of my last info.

Chances are higher on two wheels of injury. I LOVE riding...however...life becomes like " a box of chocolates " out there!!

I still ride when I can but its not often anymore. But the texting while driving thing needs to be addressed even more than it is.

Around here at least, DOT has been cracking down on private use vehicles. If you're pulling a trailer of any type you'r subject to scrutiny. I see so many unbalanced trailers and loads and unsecured loads and other stupidity that I've learned to pay special attention to anyone pulling a trailer. Add phones, food and any other number of distractions to the mix and just everyday driving becomes a crapshoot. When you're up on 2 it's just a matter of time. I still love to ride but I have so many miles behind me I just decided that time was too close.

Just released some more info on the truck driver. Had a couple DUI arrests as well as drug offenses.

After authorities discovered that a horrendous accident which left five marines and two of their wives dead was caused by a Ukranian-born truck driver who should have had his license suspended because of multiple DUIs and drug charges, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker ordered an internal investigation of the commonwealth's Registry of Motor Vehicles. That investigation revealed there were hundreds, if not thousands, of flagged drivers who potentially should not be on the road due to previous charges and violations of the law. - Timothy Meads

As of Tuesday, July 2, 546 individuals have had their licenses suspended due to previous infractions which make then a danger to other drivers on the road. According to the Boston Herald, "The Registry of Motor Vehicles let tens of thousands of alerts on Massachusetts drivers’ violations in other states accumulate for more than a year, unprocessed in 53 bins, in a deadly bureaucratic failure that Gov. Charlie Baker admits has tested public confidence in his administration." Late this afternoon, CNN reported on the memorial cycle ride for the seven bikers and their families.

Thousands of motorcyclists rode across New Hampshire on Saturday to honor seven bikers killed in a collision with a pickup truck in June.
New Hampshire State Police said more than 3,000 people participated in the "Ride for the Fallen 7," a 90-mile journey to the site of the crash.
The cyclists started their ride at noon, leaving from a biker bar in Laconia, and traveled north to end up at Route 2 in Randolph near the motel where the victims stayed before the accident. State police escorted the group for the length of the route.

"It's an unprecedented accident, so we might as well have an unprecedented memorial," organizer Steven Allison told CNN affiliate WMUR.

I’d say life in prison is a fair penalty for the truck driver. He obviously is unable to learn from previous mistakes. Such a senseless and avoidable tragedy!
