I prefer medium heat chili or salsa/hot sauce but like very hot horseradish or wasabi. It has a different kind of heat, the burn goes away fairly quickly unlike hot pepper burn.

"While capsaicin is responsible for the burn in peppers, allyl isothiocyanate produces the nasal flaring sensation to which wasabi and horseradish are known. ... Since it is in a vapor form and not bound as tightly to the receptors the burn subsides much more quickly than the burn from capsaicin."

interesting about horseradish .... I'm well aware of the "nasal flaring sensation" but had no clue as to the cause ....

I like that hot horseradish also to bad you cant find it on a consistant basis. Local Sprouts market where I live has some called Atomic Horseradish. One jar is hot and the next one isnt. Same with the Beaver Extra Hot.

Totally agree on the Horseradish and Wasabi.
I always put a lot of horseradish in my coctail sauce and use a lot of Wasabi with my Sushi.

I like all the hot stuff including wasabi. My experience is that wasabi can be a heck of a lot hotter than Jalapenos.
We have a Japanese place close by that has a "Bento Box", which literally means "lunch box", and in it they have sushi and
wasabi as well as other delights. Wow, a little of that cleans out your sinuses really quick, but I like it.
I also like hot cocktail sauce.
OK,I like hot women too.

That Bento Box is usually Shrimp in Teriyaki sauce, fried rice, pickled cabbage, three sushi rolls and soup.
It's all good. :D

I bought a tube of S&B Wasabi at Fred Myer that is extremely hot, just a very small amount on a bite of sushi is almost too much, don't know how consistent it will be as this tube is going to last me quite awhile. Agree about the Beaver Extra Hot Horseradish, sometimes hot, sometimes pretty mild. It's the same with their Extra Hot Chinese Mustard.

Mmm, prime rib with extra hot horseradish. Have to wait for my favorite prime rib place to open up for in-house dining. Don't know about take-out prime rib, would probably have to warm it up in the microwave and I like my prime rib extra rare.

Last night I made my pizza poorboys. There used to be a local pizza shop that made these and they were wonderful. And better than mine of course. Sadly they went out of business many years ago. Simple to make, spread some pizza sauce on a roll, cover with cheese and whatever toppings you like, pepperoni for me and bake open top at 350 for 20 -25 minutes. Let cool slightly and eat either open face or as a sandwich. Mmmmmm

Holy cow, that looks good! And simple! Making spaghetti tonight and homemade garlic/cheese bread. I'm gonna try that poorboy deal; that looks tasty.

I had heard of Wasabi but since the closest I come to raw fish is taking them off of a hook, I had no clue what it was .... in reading about Wasabi it appears to be in the horseradish family .... since I do like horseradish in cocktail sauce and enjoy it on hamburgers and other meats, I'd be willing to give it a try .... I'm all for folks who enjoy them eating foods like sushi, anchovies, sardines, caviar and such .... as for me Image

The anchovies I've tried were way too salty, caviar was so-so but it was the cheap stuff, don't know about the expensive Black Sea sturgeon stuff, I'd try it but wouldn't want to pay for it. Love sardines and sushi, you know you can get sushi without the raw fish, just rice and veggies.

How about some raw oysters or escargot. I prefer my oysters cooked, escargot was like eating clams, just don't think about snails while you're eating them. I'll try just about anything once, would probably draw the line at bugs. OK, I guess technically a snail is a bug. I've only had them once and don't plan on having them again, too expensive.

I could live on seafood alone, especially crustacions! Never will frown on a good piece of meat though!😋
Oh, throw in some Chilean sea bass too!

Nothing special last night. Hamburger Steak with Brussel sprouts and pork and beans. OK, but not special.

I would like to live on seafood, especially shell fish, but shell fish is high on cholesterol, so gotta limit that.
When I lived on the East Coast we went to the beach a lot. My youngest son had a pocket in his swim suit that
contained an oyster knife and Tabasco sauce. He was always searching the sand with his toes and any clam he
found never made it ashore.

Here in Minnesoooota you have to search a bit to get good seafood. Mostly here they like Walleye filets and Sunfish
bites. For 6 or 7 months a year there is an outfit that comes up from Galveston, Tx. once a week with fresh oysters,
redfish, ect. We generally go to the parking lot where they are selling the seafood and stock up. :D

Looks good except for the lima beans, it's not their taste as much as their texture that I don't like. I like most beans, even butter beans which kind of look like lima beans. Just got a smallish ham at Costco, going to throw it and some soaked dry beans in my slow cooker.

So, are you going to try some veggie and rice only sushi? :o
