Happy New Year All!
The red dot rossi report
The red dot rossi report
Took the rossi 454 out again with the red dot to use full house 454 loads to see if the dot and the mount survived, they did, I think.
Ive had this lottle burris ff3 for years and used it on alot of stuff but I think that 6lb 454 is probably the hardest bucking bronc its rode.
I do have a pretty bad astigmatism and dots are never dots but I never noticed it being quite as fuzzy. I guess the astigmatism could be getting worse.
I shot over 150 heavy 45colt rounds and about 20 really thumpin 454 rounds through it. The increase in hit probability is really amazing me. Shot at 100yds this time. No pics, I was jist slamming steel but I hit it alot. I even fired a few at the 200yd plates and scored a few. I was quite surprised how well those 305gr swc fly. Im estimating here but the powder, according to the vectan burn rate chart puts 6.5 on par (same line) as h110, 296, enforcer and N110 so out of that 20" barrel vs a 7.25 from Hodgdon I guess 1500- 1550fps, maybe a bit more. Quite accurate bullet from Matts. The 454 was hurling 350gr wfn from Matts and they should be scootin along at about the same clip. Those things hurt a lottle. Glad rossi had the foresight to add that quite nice pad.

Sounds like a fun and productive day.
I like just shooting the steel myself.

That’s great. I don’t have much experience with red dots but I’m thinking 200 yards is asking a lot from one but I’ve never shot one at that distance.

Re: The red dot rossi report
Actually I can easily hit steel out to 300 easily. The key to using red dots at distance is having a 1, 2, or 3 moa(at most) dot size. The bigger the dot the more it covers the target at distance, naturally. Theyre not for precision shooting for sure. They are quick and very easy to use though.

Just kidding. Yes, yes I have. Easier for many to see, myself included. The Burris I have is so old the green wasnt even a thing when I bought it. I do like green though. I have an eotech with the green reticle and its wonderful, sadly though its the only one I own.
I have the eotech, the burris, a sig romeo5, a sig romeo7 and a vortex uh-1. My favorite is the vortex. That is a really nice sight. Love that thing. Second is the eotech.

I have 3 of these like them alot. Have a close friend who bought one he likes it as well. Green is more user friendly to me.

Re: The red dot rossi report
Cataracts can make red dots look even more fuzzy. Just been though that. Got the cataracts removed and my red dots are much sharper, now.

Re: The red dot rossi report
I just put a sig red dot on a 336 Marlin for the wife. The laser sight in device is due in today so I can dial in the red dot, then we can tweek it with a group or two. She'll have that Marlin as an Option for large predators around the barn/coop area.
