Smooth bore cleaning
I recently bought the .22 Garden Gun which is a .22 cal shotgun. ( smooth bore ). I don't know if Daytime Dave and myself are the only H001GG owners or not.
Anyway, I went to swab out the barrel for its initial cleaning. I could hardly get a .22 patch through it. It's as though because there are no grooves, as in a rifled barrel, there is no additional relief for the patch.
Had to kinda force it through...not good, IMO.
Any thoughts on this issue?...Dave? If no one else?

treat it like an air rifle, run a string down it with little cloth flags tied to it. once you figure out the size you won't need many. Also, some yarn works, sometimes paracord.

Re: Smooth bore cleaning
Interesting. I thought a smooth barrel would be smoother. I typically do not have an issue with my shotgun, smooth barrel. The patches just slide through. Tight fit seems like a good thing. If it is smooth, there is no concern with damaging groves. If a tight fit is a concern, maybe a thinner patch or different jag. I have noticed that not all patches have the same thickness and not all jags fit the same. With a particular 30-30 jag, I have to use a thinner patch to run it through the barrel.

Actions speak louder than words (Matthew 7:16-20).
Re: Smooth bore cleaning
It is likely choked at the bore. Airguns are pretty much the same way. Some have rifling but the last 3 inches or so choke it down and are what give the accuracy.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Re: Smooth bore cleaning
ALL of this info so far is very helpful, thanks guys. I've just never experienced this with any of my other guns.
A .22 smooth bore is not really a common thing, so I thought that might have something to do with it.

Re: Smooth bore cleaning
Sorry to be late to this Mark, but Al has already given you my answer. I have only used a bore snake on my garden gun when I got it and then after use.
I have found it to be all I have needed to keep the barrel clean so far. I've had very few rounds through it so far.
