Ideas on the mares leg
Re: Ideas on the mares leg
I would pick up a .410 mares leg in a heartbeat.
Lever action .410 as short as you can go without a tax stamp.

My Remington TAC-14 has a 14" barrel with a OAL of 26 3/8" in 20ga. It is called a "Firearm"and requires no tax stamp.

Re: Ideas on the mares leg
I went with the Mossberg "Shockwave".
Remington's "Tac 14" is a copy of the Mossberg, at least the Mossberg was released first.
Both have the 14" barrel, the birds-head pistol grip, and neither require a tax stamp.
The Mossberg is based on the tried and proven model 590, and is slightly less expensive than the Remington.
To top things off, Mossberg put the safety in the right place by putting it on the tang, where it belongs.
Love my Shockwave. Someday I'll have the 20 & 12ga's too.

The Mossberg is available in a .410 also but it still doesn’t have a lever.

I have the 20 ga. Shockwave and it makes a perfect little package for home defense or woods carry.
Do have a "Mares Leg' but it is a .45 Colt Rossi version with the 9 inch barrel.

It would seem that you can do anything you want, just be sure to buy the tax stamp, just before you do it . . .Rep1954 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2019 7:48 pmI’d love a .410 caliber mare’s leg even one that went just over 26” which would make it a “firearm”. Under 26” would make it a SBS (short barrel shotgun) requiring a $200.00 tax stamp. As I understand it if you give the fed’s $200.00 a SBS is not as dangerous as before you paid their threat.

Henry could make a .410/ .45 Colt Mare's Leg and make as a pistol just as Rossi made there Ranch Hand as pistols. Being a pistol Total Length and barrel length is no issue.

Only thing about the shotshells and a rifled barrel...Seems it wouldn't pattern well.fortyshooter wrote: ↑Tue Nov 02, 2021 4:51 pmHenry could make a .410/ .45 Colt Mare's Leg and make as a pistol just as Rossi made there Ranch Hand as pistols. I had one of the Tarsus Judges when they first came out, mostly just shot the 45's out of it.
At ten or so yds. it was already opening up pretty good.
I did buy some of those self defense loads that I think Federal made, and they were ok.
