BBS at 200 yards
BBS at 200 yards
I had the opportunity today to shoot steel targets at a new range, and targets were at 200 and 300 yards. Henry big boy steel carbine in 357 with a leupold vx freedom scope was ringing steel at 200 yards no problem. I had my doubts at that distance with that setup, but it handled it well and got the job done. I was shooting freedom munitions 158gr ammo and I thoroughly enjoyed myself with this range trip for sure.

Re: BBS at 200 yards
200 yards is well within the reach of a carbine chambered in 357, 41, 44, or 45 Colt.
In the right hands, they'll even ethically hunt medium game at that range.... any of them, at 200 yards, will roughly equal the old 44-40 at the muzzle, and we all know what that round accomplished.

Assuming a terminal velocity of 1100- 1200fps for that 158 gr bullet, it would hit with about 425lbf at the low end & 500 lbf at the high end. Enough to do some fatal damage if the hit's in the right spot.Ridgerunner665 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 7:56 pm200 yards is well within the reach of a carbine chambered in 357, 41, 44, or 45 Colt.

Re: BBS at 200 yards
Most definitely, got a friend over in CO that does some long range shooting with a 45 colt.
Here's part of a message I got the other day, him and a buddy took a little road trip.
"We did some shooting, the targets had survived the fire
amazingly well and there was plenty of dust for spotting. I took
the Uberti 45 colt and Sharps 45-70, but I wasn't shooting well.
I did okay at 400, 500, and 650 but never could really get on the 990.
I did get one ding, and it was with the 45 colt, the Sharps splashed
dirt on the dinger and scared the he// out of it but no joy."

Re: BBS at 200 yards
I shot my bbsc 357 at 200 yards once. I found a drop of 30”. If I had the long range experience, I imagine I could hit steel at that distance. I’m just not up for the discipline yet. Maybe someday.
Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.

30 inches seems like an awful lot.....
My 41 mag is only 18 inches low at 200 yards, that is sighted in dead on at 100 with a 210 grain bullet at 1,705 fps.

Re: BBS at 200 yards
I've fired both our Henry 357 & 44 Mags at 125 yards and when I do my part, they will most certainly do theirs .... haven't had an opportunity to cut them loose at 200 yards but would sure like to do so ... as to hunting, given a shot I was comfortable with, I wouldn't hesitate to take a shot at a whitetail at 125 yards

Re: BBS at 200 yards
First deer my 41 carbine claimed was at 125 yards... laid him low in his tracks with 1 shot... high shoulder hit, sent some bone fragments up into his spinal column... those Swift A-Frame bullets don't mess around.

Great shooting those 100+ yard shots guys! I have a nephew down in Ga. that has a 900 yd. range and when the virus settles down I'm going to try and pay a visit.
