That's Wind, he was a member of MO, then a few yrs ago he was on another site that I'm also a member of.
He passed away last year.
Everything you will every hear about him is good.
He had an annual gathering at his place for several years.

he most certainly had a talent for long range, off hand shooting .... hate to hear he has passed

Off hand I use to shoot it 200 yards all the time at steel. But I havent shot it at anything farther than that, that I can remember. One of these days Im going to take out my steel to the grasslands and set it out there farther and see what this old man can do. One of the things that holds 38-55 back in popularity is the same thing that holds back the 41. Over the counter ammo is high priced and a guy needs to reload to have an interest in owning one. Whats so cool about 38-55 is that even the hunting loads dont have that shoulder pounding recoil. 30-30 has more recoil than 38-55
