New range start up

Post by GunnyGene » Mon Sep 02, 2019 4:02 pm

This is a bit of purely local interest, but my small farming community has been needing a good range for many years. The closest range (private or public) until now has been a 30 mile drive. So one of my neighbors decided to take the plunge and build one. Just found out about it today. YAAAA!! It will be a local IDPA range/club, but he's also put in a 275meter rifle range, and is offering a variety of gunsmithing services and courses for young shooters, in addition to IDPA competitions, when he gets it all up and running. I really hope he's successful, since it would be a nice boon to our small community.

He's just put up a brand new website with some preliminary info. https://gunsmithsoutheast.com/

Lucky you Gunny. Maybe you can help build some props for the IDPA part. :)
Looks like he has a head start on that though.

That pic with the props is not his range, it's just a stock photo of some other IDPA range. But yeah, I've thought about getting involved with that kind of thing. It won't be soon tho, since I'm still recovering from some cancer surgery.

That's great to have a range so close by, Gunny. Most of all I like to shoot outdoors, and those are the ranges that are furthest away. For example, the one and only "nearby" muzzleloader range I've found to shoot my new pistol is close to 60 miles one way. Great range, but with all the summertime KC road construction, it feels like travel over the rutted OR Trail to get there!

A few years ago I was reading about the IDPA org and the shooting sport that is offered. This is the range I read about in Ballwin, MO, a burb of St. Louis. https://www.therangestl.com/COMPETITION/IDPA.aspx It is located 250 miles east of me, otherwise I might have already checked it out.

Best for a quick recovery from surgery, and that it will allow you to then participate in building parts of the new range. It sounds like you'd enjoy doing that kind of work. Take care of yourself first.

IDPA is great. Something for everyone from beginner to old timer and relatively inexpensive. No high priced custom match firearm or equipment needed.
