Trying to make a decision.

I have three days left in the 2018 Pa. deer season. I still have all three of my tags left and only got to hunt about 2 hr. last Saturday until it put down the rain. Now I had a very big 10 point give to my by my cousin who don't keep the meat. Then he goes home and hunts the second Monday of the two week season and kills a huge 8 point and gives that one to me. I haven't deer hunted in four years more than 3-4 hours and really wanted to get one with my 444 Marlin again. Now I am having second thoughts about even going again this season. I darn well don't need the meat now and if I fill a doe tag I will maybe be killing three deer with one shot. I am leaning toward not going to save a few deer from dying that I don't need. I also thought I could shoot one then give it to some one but if I don't know them well I am always afraid they will waste it and not even do the work on it to get it freezer ready. I hate any wasting of food whether store bought or from the woods. The grandson would take one but won't help me with it and I can't work over that table any more with my bad back so I guess he is out of the picture. I will think on it until tomorrow morning and maybe end up wiping the rifles down and putting them away for this year.

I understand your dilemma. I guess if it were me, under all the circumstances you outlined, I'd go out once more IF the weather was decent and I'd take a BUCK only (you pick how big).

Other than that, give 'em another year to grow and yourself another year to plan on on outing to your cousin's hunting grounds!

I don't even want to guess how many times I held it in the coal furnace and cooked the oil to the surface and kept cleaning it off until it quit coming out. Also I gave the finish extra curing time between coats because of the shape the wood was in. Sorry that story is for another time.

I would get out there and hunt, you are allowed to let them walk.
Who knows you might bump into a monster buck, I think anytime in the field hunting is time well spent regardless of what you bring home.

I really don't mind staying home and catch up on my project rifles. I need to really finish that Marlin 39A "Squirrel Rifle." It has been 9 months on that one and it needs to get finished hopefully by New Years day. I won't make it out today but maybe go tomorrow and Saturday. I have to go with my brother today to look at Jeeps. He likes me to go if he is shopping for a vehicle. He lives in the ice box of Md. so he has to have a 4-wheel drive to get in and out with the amount of snow fall they see up there every year. I am not a die hard deer hunter so it is not a big deal to miss some of the deer season days. I have killed more than my share of deer and at nearly 70 years old it gets harder all the time to drag them out and load them into the truck by myself. As far as staying in my room and working on projects I really enjoy my new room and don't mind working in there especially if it is really cold and windy out. I almost enjoy working with rifles as much as shooting them. It is 25* out now with windy conditions and my room being just a room away from the wood/coal furnace was 77* when I just came up from being down there. I love it.
