I spent a most enjoyable and relaxing afternoon at my friend's 100-yard range with my .22LR SGC.
Goal for the day
Have fun and relax. Let the SGC do all the driving!
Stance
Shot only off hand
Targets
~Two 8" B-C splash targets
~Two 3" x 2-1/2" tin cans
~One 8"x10" black steel
Target Distances
~Two splash targets were set at 33 yards and 40 yards
~Two tin cans were set at 35 yards
~Black steel was set at 50 yards
Ammo
~40 rounds of Browning Performance Rimfire (BPR) 40gr RN
~40 rounds of Federal 36gr CP-HP
NOTE on ammo. I read some discussion on another forum about the BPR ammo since I've never used it. There were more than a few negative comments about the effectiveness of this ammo. I found a good price for the BPR, and I bought two bricks and have 800 rounds of it. So I was a little nervous...... But both the Henry SGC and the BLR ammo came through with flying colors! I really didn't have a single glitch with it -- hurrah. No FTFs or FTFs, plus you'll see that the POIs on the splash target look good! Also the 40 Federal rounds chambered and fired excellently. This SGC sure handles its ammo really, really well!
Skinner peep sight
Since I've used/tested all three aperture sizes I bought for the Skinner peep, I stuck with only one today.
I used the 0.70" middle size. It really worked very well at all distances I shot.
Target POIs and Results
~Upper left target displays 18/20 hits using the BLR ammo at 33 yards. Two fliers in the cardboard.
~Lower right target displays 14/20 hits using the Federal ammo at 40 yards. Four fliers in the cardboard, and two fliers in the woods!
~Two tin cans carry either 5 or 6 hits at 35 yards. It's a little hard to clearly tell because of the "hit" hole and the "exit" hole. Plus I hung the tin cans on tree branches, so they definitely were moving around when hit.
~Black steel rang the clang for 8/10 shots at 50 yards. I'm simply hoping my ear plugs muffled the 9th and 10th clang where I just couldn't hear them clearly!
And here are the targets, excluding the black steel.
