My Teardrop Trailer

I bought it in March of 2007 and traveled from Washington State to North Carolina and back. I think I was gone six weeks.


I spent the next few years camping in Washington, Idaho and Montana and pulled it with my Toyota.


I drove Route 66 with my 1990 Bronco II. This was the best towing rig but I prefer the looks of the older Bronco II.


So I bought a 1986 Bronco II.


If I'm not driving far I'll pull it with this gas hog.


I drove down to Texas for an Army reunion and stopped to see Tx GunRunner.


I very seldom stoped at state parks or pay for camping. Most of the time I stopped at rest areas, truck stops, Wal-marts, and even spent the night in a church parking lot. I don't cook in the back but can boil water for oatmeal, tea and coffee, and for cup-a-soups. I ate a lot of PB&J sands along with fruits and nuts. About every third day I would stop at a truck stop and port out.


The longest I spent in it was eight weeks straight and one year I spent seven months camping and traveling.

One of my favorite renditions of "Route 66" is the version by Nat King Cole.

They are both very clean but the 86 has a better paint job.

When I was traveling I would post pictures daily. My wife has cancer and I'm not able to travel now. I sure miss the open road.

I enjoyed the pictures of your travels.

From your posts, Sir Henry, and CT's posts I had no idea what you and your spouses are dealing with every day. One on one coast and one on the other - made me think of all the people throughout this great land of America that are impacted by cancer. You have my utmost respect for maintaining an upbeat attitude and putting one foot in front of the other each day. Thoughts and prayers for you all.

I opened this thread to take a look at a Teardrop trailer, and the travels it has been on. Well, saw the pictures, and was envious. Then I read the conversation between you, Sir Henry, and CT_Shooter. That changed everything. CT_Shooter and Sir Henry, from my family to yours, prayers have been sent. Thank you both for sharing that information with us.

I loved traveling in my teardrop but even the trailer is getting old. I'm driving over to Ephrata tomorrow to pick the trailer up. I'm going to put it in the backyard. I'll post pictures of what my backyard looks like.

Great picture story. I enjoyed each pic. Thanks for sharing. So sorry for the medical struggles. Life is a journey. Sometimes dark and foggy just like traveling our great country. Laughter and time with loved ones are two destinations most cherished in our life's travels. Prayers will go up for you all.

I am very sorry to hear about your wife's condition . My wife has advanced Lyme disease and problems from a closed head injury many years ago so we can't go any place except Dr. appts.

I'll keep you all in my prayers. Cancer runs in my family. My mom, my dad, and in March 1990 I was diagnosed with non hodgkins large cell lymphoma. It was centered in my thyroid but had spread to other areas of my chest. I went up to New York City to Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for a second opinion. I had excellent doctors in the Lehigh Valley of Pa. I had 23 radiation treatments and eight months of chemotherapy. Yeah, sick, no hair, the whole ball of wax. I had massive doses of prednisone along with the four drugs that they put in my I.V. to make up my chemotherapy treatments. I went into remission in February of 1991. Perhaps all the chemicals, paints and thinners that I worked with in industry had something to do with it? Hard to say. I have been good since then as far as that type of cancer. But in 2009 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. My daughter-in-law, who is a doctor, said, "get it out, don't mess with the treatments." I had my prostate removed and I have been good since and my PSA has stayed at zero. I feel very sorry for any family that has to deal with a debilitating and life threatening disease. It killed my dad, but my mom beat it when she was 74 and she just turned 101 in February. The old saying that when you have your health, you have everything, has a lot of merit.
