.45 Colt Hunting Load For Henry Original

I'm new to this forum and also new to Henry. I recently ordered a Henry Original, H011C. My plan is to get familiar with it at all practical Ohio whitetail hunting distances and then take a whitetail with it. I'm only going to do this once, but I really want to take a deer with that rifle. My question is that all of the standard jacketed bullet loads for .45 Colt are kind of anemic. The ammo that I really like is the +P offerings from Buffalo Bore. I contacted Henry and they said that the Original will work with all "standard pressure" factory ammo both lead and jacketed. I took that to mean no +P.

I would appreciate any suggestions or information.

I don't think it's a good idea to run anything but low-med power ammo in your H011C - just like Henry says. If I'm not mistaken, the action in those rifles is the authentic Winchester "toggle" action - which would be hard pressed to take on a 45 Colt +P round. I think the best you could do would be something like a Winchester SuperX 255g 45LC type round, which is probably good enough to take a whitetail inside of 100yds...

I agree with tad. Standard pressure 45 Colt hunting loads have been used for a long time to take deer with handguns at revolver ranges, meaning out to 50 yards or a bit more. A rifle should get you a bit more velocity and range. Those buffalo Bore +P loads are really designed for larger game such as elk or as self-dense loads in bear country.

Buffalo Bore does make standard pressure 255gr loads that produce 1000fps from a handgun. You would have considerably higher velocity from a rifle.
They claim that they are safe in any repro firearm. This is NOT a +P load but will do the job.

This 748758 is 45 Colt loaded with 3 FFF BLACKPOWDER and is safe in any gun chamber in 45 Colt . NEVER shoot 45+P in 1860 Henry , 1866 Winc or 1873 Winc rifle or there copy's . The toggle system will not hold those pressure .

I have trouble reading the screen and I miss read " item 3F-200 gr " , as 3FFF with 200 gr bullet . Thank you for correcting me . I was wondering how they got over 1000 fps using black powder in a 45 Colt and not a balloon head case .

I shoot Winchester 250 gr LFN in my 1860 and it sends backboard splinters flying at 100 yrds.
