heading to the range for the first time

Post by Sir Henry » Sat Jul 01, 2017 10:03 am

My friend Evelyn works half a day today and we are planning on heading to the range for the first time after work. She was a little hesitant till I told her we would only be shooting rimfire. She didn't know what that was so I showed her a .22 short. She called them "baby bullets" and thought it would be fun.

So now I'm wondering what to take? A Henry of course but which Henry? A CZ should be in the mix and I'm also thinking a SA revolver. The range might be busy and sometimes shooting on the pistol side is best when its really busy. Rimfire rifles can be shot on the pistol side but it only goes out to 25 yards. But it will all be offhand also. Might not decide until we get there.

I posted in the lounge because this post isn't actually a range report. Wish us luck.

I wish I could get my wife to go when I want to. It would make it easier. But I might have an ace in the hole in the future as her daughter wants to go shooting. She has never shot a gun before. I told her that I wanted her to have the Henry monument valley 22 rifle. She is in love with that gun. Dont blame her I like it as well. Good luck Gene and I hope you gain a shooting partner for frequent range visits. Al

I'm all loaded. We will be shooting a vintage 10/22 wearing a vintage Weaver, a 452 CZ American wearing a Nikon if I remember right, a Henry pump which has never been shot, and a Henry Mare's Leg. So she will be shooting a semi-auto, bolt, pump and a lever action. I have gone over range safety several times with her. Her father was a drill instructor so she has been around firearms all her life; she just hasn't shot much because all she shot was high-powered rifle and she didn't like it. When I showed her the .22 short it was next to a 30.06 which she has shot.

This needs to be a fun day for her.

Not to worry, Gene. I'm sure it will be a fun day for you both. A big pat on the back for you, too, for getting another gal interested in the shooting sports.

Good luck!. My wife has no interest in guns. If she did I'd have to sleep with one eye open. :)
