41 special?

Any 41 mag owners out there try running 41 special through their Henry? If so, does it cycle well? Any feedback would be appreciated.

I have not tried .41 special yet. I do have some starline brass in .41 special using in my S&W Model 57 without issues.
I asked Henry about this in April. I got this respsonse:

"Thank you for your interest. We haven’t done any testing with .41spl and for all intents and purposes, these were built as a .41 mag only rifle."

in our 44 mag Henry we have never fired a 44 special casing but we have fired hundreds of 44 special level loads in 44 mag casings .... at 50 +/- yards they do really well .... at 100 or so yards there performance falls a bit short .... I'd suspect much the same might be true in a 41

Im a big 41 fan and if I want to load a 41 special type load I just use a 41 mag case. Never had an issue doing it this way and I guess I dont know why a guy would want to have more brass for that reason. Al

.44 Special loads in .44 Special cases work fine in my B.B.S. .44.

HUMMMMMMMMMMMMMM ..... 41 Special sounds like rimmed 40 S&W :D ... Have you tied this bullet designed below . It feeds best in bottom feeders .

https://www.midwayusa.com/product/20465 ... -flat-nose

Taper crimp die will improve all feeding problem . See if a buddy of your has a taper crimp die for a 40 S&W it should work perfect .

What do you mean by 41 Special? The 41Mag had two loads when it came out. The full house magnum load and the police load. The cases were the same size. Is someone making a shorter case? If they are, Why? Or is someone calling the light loads, 41 special?

I have been told that just like Henry's 44 Mag rifle will fire 44 Special ammo and their 357 Mag rifle will fire 38 Special ammo, their 41 Mag rifle will fire 41 Special ammo .... example : https://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product ... e=&from=fn .... all that being said, Henry doesn't list 41 special as an option for its 41 Mag on its website .... to make sure one way or the other, it would be wise to call their customer service

From what I gather on the net, they are lighter than the police loads for the 41Mag. So they labeled them 41 Special so they could be used in Cowboy action shooting. I don't think the cases were cut down but they might be. Lots of loads have been reinvented for Cowboy action events.

John Taffin and others had custom Ruger single actions made on the smaller frames to use a .41 magnum case shortened by 1/8" because the .41 mag didn't evolve from a shorter cartridge like the .357 & .44 magnums did. Why? ....because they're gun guys & they could.
The .41 special has developed a following & it has it's fans just like the .44 special does. Starline is making brass with the .41 special headstamp & that seems to be increasing it's popularity.

Edited to add:
The concept of a .41 Special goes way back. Google it & you'll find some interesting reading.

Take 41 mag brass and load it with 6.0 of Unique and 41 cal bullet and you made a 41 mag shoot at 41 special fps and it should feed in any 41 mag lever gun with no problem . Run 41 mag loaded ammo in 40 S&W / 10MM TAPER crimp die will help improve any feeding problems .

Finally got around to trying .41 Special in my Henry .41 Carbine. Cycled well and no issues. Able to fit 8 rounds (with .41 mag, holds 7).
Used Starline .41 Special brass, 215 gr LSWC, 6.0 grains Unique, 1.45” oal, Winchester WLP primer, and light roll crimp.
Worked very well! Nice shooting, easy plinking load, with minimal recoil.

Well,

The .357 feeds .38 spl.

The .44 mag feeds .44 spl

The .45 feeds .45 schofield.

It should be no surprise .41 would feed .41 spl.

I bought some quite a few years ago, why I don't really know but, I did.
That was before Henry ever thought about making a 41.
I load 'em with a 210gr. swc and 9.4 grs. Blue Dot.

I've never run any through the Henry, going down to the barn later to shoot some 44's.
Think I still have a few of those specials loaded up around here.
I will try some and get back to ya.

Ok, guess I lied.
The ammo box that "had" the specials in it, only had mag rounds.
So evidently I had already shot all the specials.

I will load a few this week and get back to ya, sorry.
I will get back to ya later.
