I shot off hand, standing. This is only the second time that I've shot this gun with the Skinner ghost ring rear sight and bead front sight mods I put on it. The new sights are great to use, and the PUMP is a lot of fun to shoot.
Shooting the #8 shot. I spaced out some tin cans at different yardages ranging from 6 yards to about 20 yards out. I positioned the cans across the shooting range, so I could run parallel to them (left to right) and shoot each one as if I were in the shotgun portion of a 3-gun competition. Most were on the ground, two were on tree stumps, one was in a very low-hanging branch. When I trained with my son-in-law doing 3-gun exercises a few years ago, I shot best using my pump shotgun --- much better than shooting the AR and semi-auto firearms/components. Today was no different. Not a single can escaped PUMP. Here are a couple of photos:

"....the key for shooting offhand with iron sights is front sight visibility. The reason for this is simple. No human being can hold perfectly steady shooting offhand. That sight will always be in motion. Shooting with accuracy with a front sight (or scope crosshairs) in motion is a matter of trigger timing as the sight (or crosshair) crosses or passes the target...."
I almost felt my shotgun barrel "swaying" today as I shot. It was quite noticeable. I was good with the 20-yard-target results; the other two are okay, but could be much better. So my take-a-way from shooting today (again and forevermore) is more practice, practice, practice. Of course, that means more fun.
At the end of the target shooting, I had five slugs left. My friend had built two new steel targets mounted on a pole next to the wood target board. I didn't know what caliber the steel would hold up to. So I moved back to 50 yards, and planned to try out those five remaining rounds. The smaller black steel target was an 8" rectangle, so went after that first. I hit it dead on with round one.....but at the same time the impact broke loose the pole out of the ground and spun both targets around at least a couple of times! Wow.
These shotgun slugs are something else....I think they would definitely be a good deer-hunting round. Anyway, the target pole was now standing at an angle, with both targets kind of turned downward. So I re-positioned everything, got both targets set on the left side again of the pole, and quit for the day. I have the thought that my friend set those up for handgun targets only, and decided not to further tear up his new equipment! I'll try those steel targets out next time with my SGC.
