45-70 Bowling
45-70 Bowling
I built this a few years ago for fun shooting with leverguns and any other gun I decided to shoot at them. Today the 45-70 had its turn. All I can say is fun. The pins are pretty forgivng and will take quite a few rounds before falling to the ground. 22 LR just barely moves them but the 45-70 will spin them over the top. I tried some new plinkin loads out while shooting at these pins also Squatch if you catch this thread 28 grains of 5744 and those MCB was a winner for me. They shoot real good. I will be using that load again. Happy Trails Al

I use to bowl with the neighbors. They were good friends with the guy who managed the alley where we bowled. I was able to come up with about 3 cases of pins. I think I still have a case and a half left. But the alley anyway would sell 10 at a time of the old worn out pins for 25.00 I think. They still bowl but at a different alley. Im not sure if I could still come up with more but if I couldnt I would get some steel plates to hang. Al

Re: 45-70 Bowling
10-4 ... we are planning to put together a 150 +/- yard range on some land your oldest son has recently purchased .... we definitely plan on some steel plates and I do like the idea of adding some bowling pins
Re: 45-70 Bowling
If you get some plates they hang real well on sheppards hooks also. But the bowling pins are fun. Next to clay pidgeons on the bank there great. Al

Nice looking bowling pin rig, Al.BigAl52 wrote:If you get some plates they hang real well on sheppards hooks also. But the bowling pins are fun. Next to clay pidgeons on the bank there great. Al
I've got an 8" armored plate hanging from a shephard's hook that I set up for 44MAG - works well - loads of fun to hear those 44's ring the steel. I shot it with the 45-70 and it knocked it off the hook and it slid down the shaft to the ground - it's awesome how hard those 405g bullets hit....
Re: 45-70 Bowling
Thanks Tad I came up with that with the one cell I have left in my brain. Schedule 40 PVC from Home Depot and some light weight chain and quick links and your on your way.
