Good shooting at the range - .357 BBS

Post by Mgr2 » Fri Feb 03, 2017 1:25 am

I took the Big Boy to the range yesterday morning, to check out some new loads. I had no luck with the cast bullet loads, however the S&B 158 grain JSP's over a 9.5 grain charge of HS-6 (taken from the Hodgdon reloading data center website) and CCI550 primers produced very good accuracy. The distance to target was 100 meters (109 yards).

Nice job HS-6 also works good in the 45 colt. I like that power and have tried it many times in the colt. I wondered how it would do in 357 now I know. Al

Nice 357 group for 100 meters. I'd be very happy with it, too. Great shooting.

My hunting round is a 158 grain Hornady XTP bullet with 17 grain W296 and CCI550 primers. Also very accurate. It seems the .357 Big Boy likes quite hot loads, since I have had little success with light loads so far.

And yes, I am trying to develop a good plinking load with lead bullets :).
