Nail puller. With this tool you can use a hammer to pull nails that are flush with the board and a regular puller cannot grip.

The jaws go on either side of the nail head. Raise the handle and drive 'er down hard. That drives the jaws below the head of the nail. Then you can pull 'em out.

Great, thanks for the info. Think I’ll drive a nail somewhere and give this process a try. Makes perfect sense, kinda like a reverse slam hammer.
