Quickie trip to the range

Post by Hatchdog » Sun Apr 05, 2026 11:24 am

Yesterday we took a trip up to our property to check on conditions after the mild winter we just had. All is great with the place other than the routine maintained that needs to be done every year. While up there I took the advantage to do a little bit of shooting. Knowing I would have limited time I decided to make it 327 Fed Mag day bringing my Henry Big Boy Steel and my Ruger Sp101. I call it 327 day but I only brought some 32 H&R reloads of mine shooting the 85 gr Hornady XTP.

I shot the Ruger at 25’ and it mowed down the bowling pins great. I shot the Henry at 25 yards and it too did great but the shooter did have two misses. Rifle was fine but the shooter was rusty,

We’re planing a longer trip up there soon and I’ll get the range set up for more/better shooting.

Nice, I'm green with envy.

As soon as the range dries from the flooding, going to do some serious shooting, before I start the pistol range upgrade. The original idea didn't work out so well, the metal frame was great. The combination of cattle panels and heavy tarps against the framing... Not so much. Bulged out. Going to pull the dirt, put in telephone poles, put back the dirt. Bet the poles don't bulge, or budge.
You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.
