Airish This Morning in South Carolina

Post by HenryFan » Mon Dec 15, 2025 9:05 am

It won't be "officially" winter for another week but this morning, it is "Airish" in South Carolina.

My HVAC control panel reports the outside as temp as 16*. Not remarkable to folks up North but for us (at least She Who Must Be Obeyed and me) it is cold.

Here in the oft sunny Charleston area, it was forecast to be 20 last night, and is currently 26 at a little after 9:00. Not unusual for us to have low 20s, and even upper teens a couple times in a winter. Fortunately, it seldom lasts more than a day or two. My cat is no longer among the living, and we didn't normally let him out despite him being adapt at sneaking out with the dog, but I suspect he would refuse to go outside this morning given the opportunity.

We had cold high winds yesterday and this morning it was 14 degrees here in Central Va. Let Buster out and after a while he came hauling butt back in. Not much dog run/walk outside today. I like to run him in the backyard around mid afternoon after he is fully woke up!

I have several errands to run but they can wait for a couple more hours.

SWMBO's Honda has heated seats and it makes me a bit jealous. I still driving my 2015 Toyota Tacoma which is somewhat basic transportation. But it is paid for. Now if I could just pay off the Pinto.

I’ve lived in the north my entire life and 16 is cold period! :(

On another note, it must be backwards year. 16 in South Carolina and 40 here in Eastern Washington.

Hatchdog -

Actually, we have very little exceptionally unpleasant winter weather in South Carolina. Maybe two weeks total per year but during summer, we have an abundance of exceptionally unpleasant summer weather.

A fellow I know was raised in New Hampshire and joined the Marine Corps when he was young. He told me that when he retired from the Marine Corps, he was going to put a snow shovel over his shoulder and start walking south. He said that when someone said "What is that on your shoulder?", he was going to throw the snow shovel in a ditch and buy a piece of property. He was in Beaufort, SC when he discarded the snow shovel.

Agree, I’ll take even our sub zero temps over the humidity you folks have to suffer thru. That’s a great story about the snow shovel.

Has been down in the teens the past 2 mornings, only made it to 27° yesterday, supposedly 39 later today. With a slight warming trend the next few, but...
