Getting things ready for deer season

I took two of my rifles to the range today to make sure they were still on from last time I hunted deer.(3 seasons ago). I took my 700 Classic 250 Savage and my 444 Marlin. The little 250 is a real fun gun to shoot but the 444 is a handful even with the 240 gr. bullets. I tried some 300 gr. bullets but they make my shoulder blue and give me a headache. They were both on and shot good. I don't get picky with my deer rifles like I do my varmint rifles. I had no trouble hitting sand stones at a 100 yds. with the 444 that were about the size of tennis balls so I think that is good enough for where I hunt. The 250 Savage will hit what ever I put up at a 100 yds. with no problem. Then I came home and changed the tires and wheels on my four-wheeler for deer season. I don't run my good wheels in hunting season or winter. I scrounged up some wheels at work that needed to be painted so I got that done a few days ago and put them on today. They are not a matched set of four but the front two are matched and the rear are a set. I painted them gloss black and they look pretty good. They were free so I made out real well on them. I need to put the scabbard on and my rear bag. I only use this to drag deer and don't ride it in to hunt. It stays in my truck bed until I kill a deer. If it is wet muddy weather I leave it home.

Best of luck! You have two very nice rifles there. I have the .30-06 sighted in and will take that and maybe one of the Marlin .44 magnums. We will leave on Saturday after Thanksgiving and head for the farm in Carbon County. We don't' own a four wheeler but there are two or three available that the farmer and some of the other guys own, if we should get a legal buck. They have taken deer out for us in the past. My days of dragging deer back to the barn are over. But it was fun dragging them off the mountain through the field and back to the farm when I was younger. A little snow helped make the drag easier. That .444 Marlin will get the job done! I like your four wheeler. The last time we needed one was two years ago when my son shot a nice ten pointer on the second day of buck season at 10:00AM.
