Range Report: early morning plinking

Post by Sir Henry » Tue Apr 08, 2025 8:21 am

Most range sessions aren’t planned out in advance. Sometimes I just open the door and listen to the one that screams the loudest.

These are the ones this morning. Left to right: Henry Mares Leg in .22LR, Rossi Ranch Hand in 38/357 ( I only shot 38 today), Henry Axe in .410, and finally a custom Henry Mare’s Leg in .22 WMR with an octagon barrel.

I love it when the sun rises north of the berm and the targets are in the sun.

Those are some great backyard blinkers, Gene. I just grab usually what suits me at the time when I want to step out on the deck and take a few shots.

Lately, I've been having a lot of fun with the Winchester 9422 by loading it up with CB Shorts. I found a nice Burris Mini 4x for it that doesn't hurt the balance of this little gem. The 9422 is so smooth and easy to cock that I can pay cowboy action shooter with it banging steel. When I do, it doesn't take long to empty it.

I had a 9422, 9422M and a 9410. Hey I even had a 94 made in the twenties if I remember right. I sold them all except the 9410 when I moved to Wisconsin. Sure wish I had them and another hundred back.

I do understand. Just hard to predict where prices will go on some guns. It's now very hard to find any 9422 in useable shape for much less than a grand. Part of that is that it's a Winchester, of course.

I have my 9422 Boy Scout commemorative. It's unfired. I like my Henry .22s, so it probably will stay unfired. It has a layer of .......... on it as my ex-wife smoked in the house.
It used to be on display, over my mantle. Now it resides in the safe. I should clean it up and let it get some sun, maybe.

That is an impressive drawer Gene!
