BSA Tactical Scope or other brand inquiry

Post by Bish1309 » Fri Oct 21, 2016 9:59 pm

BSA Tactical Rifle Scope 30mm Tube 3-12x 44mm Side Focus Duplex Reticle Matte.

Would this be a good scope for my H001? If not, what would you recommend for someone on a budget?

What actual specs do I need to look for? I think I am only getting one just to get one. No real intent on using it for hunting, mostly target shooting and not anything too serious.

If so, or with any scope, what else do I need to get it mounted correctly?

I'm thinking rings and maybe some rail mounts?

I know next to nothing about scopes other than they are cool.

Ok, I did a little of my own research and think I answered one of my questions. My H0001 comes with a rail already attached. So I just need to find a scope and rings?

I also found another scope that looks to have better features including lens covers.

Whatcha think?

I think a 3X12 tactical rifle (AR) scope is probably way too much scope for an H001. I'd look at 1X4 or 2X7 rimfire scopes - don't need much scope to put a 22LR bullet on target at 25-50yds. I think an old Weaver is probably one of the better looking scopes on an H001 - search the forum and take a look at some of Sir Henry's rifles with Weavers on them - they still have that classic Henry look even with a scope....

Several of us use a Nikon Prostaff rimfire version. They are 3x-9x, which may be overkill, although if you want to shoot at 100 yds I would think the 9x would be welcome. Only you can decide if you think the looks are acceptable. It is a very crisp, bright scope. Can be had for around $120 normal price, I got mine for $20 off that on a sale.

It's hard to beat the Nikon.

As to which exact model depends on your application. If you're gonna be shooting 25 yds or less, you may want to think Adjustable Objective.

Simmons makes a Mag22 3x9x32 with A/O that has very favorable reviews, is cheap, and would match that rifle well.

Remember there are going to be some CRAZY Black Friday sales coming up in a month if you can wait.

I just installed a Leapers 3-9x40 AO Hunter scope on my H001. Since it has a 40 mm objective and medium height rings, it was touching my rear open sight and I wasn't able to get the scope to sit flush on the front ring. Simply removed the open sight and all is good. I may just get a slightly taller ring set and put the open sight back on.
The 32mm objective on my wife's H001L does NOT touch the open rear sight.
You may wish to take the size of the objective and the height of the rings into consideration when purchasing your scope.

By the way, the Leapers (UTG) is a great unit with tons of features. Cost up here in Canada was $125 with free shipping from Amazon. No doubt it would be cheaper in the US.

Good luck with your shopping.

I have three .22 rifles (2 Rugers, 1 Henry) with the Simmons scope that Henry88 talked about. I picked them up for about $60 each and they have been good scopes with no problems. For just range plinking they work very well.

Thanks for all the insight. I, too, had been wondering about the rear sight being an issue.

I was going to get the Simmons scope. I made the mistake of looking through the Nikon while at the store. The image was so clear and bright, I knew I wasn't going to be happy with another scope. As to the rear sight issue. With the Nikon on my H001, I was able to position the scope so that it cleared the rear sight. It limited adjusting eye relief, but I easily found a position that both cleared the sight, and provided the proper eye relief.

I have received two of the 4 scopes I've ordered so far. I was able to mount one on the Henry and the other on my S&W AR.

I'm lovin' it!!!!

Here's the BSA mounted to my AR...

I also ordered a tactical bag for it which holds all 5 of my mags.

Did some more scope swapping last night. I think I found what I'm keeping on my AR. It's a Vortex Red Dot. I'm thinking the reticle style scope will be reserved for my Henrys. Pictures of it will be in the following post.

Here's the other scope I got and I really like this one. This will eventually go on my Henry but I need to get a Picatinny adapter for the existing rail on my Henry. Over kill? LOL

It's mounted on my AR for picture and fitment purposes but I'm pretty sure I'm keeping the Vortex Red Dot on the AR.

Good photos and nice optics, Bish.

If it is "over kill," it is what you like....and that's what is most important! BTW, I'm not much into optics, but I do like the muzzle-end looks on your scope. Will be interesting to see how it poses on top of the Henry. ;)

OK. I don't recall if you've submitted photos for the October Contest yet. If not, you might do some with your Henry fitted with a scope. Your photos look good, and it would give the judges more to consider as they deliberate on the final outcome!

Thank you, PT7. I'm finally going to take my Henry to a range tomorrow and get the scope that's on it sighted. I should probably work on pictures tonight. Times a runnin' out.
