Snake boots?
For those who haven't followed my thread in the lounge, I had a probable snake bite the other day on my hand. Doing fine, if it was a snake, it probably didn't inject much venom. Anyway, I'm thinking about getting a pair of snake boots for the times I'm in the woods photographing and hunting. The Timberlands I bought a few years back are still going strong, although they are showing wear. Anyway, I may be more comfortable now with something that provides snake protection.
I would prefer to buy local, so I can look at them and try them on. There are a couple boot stores in town, and already told my buddy that we are going boot shopping on our go out to lunch day this week. Any suggestions?

Why would a snake want boots? They don't have any legs. Hsss, booo.

That's why snake oil went out of business. Nobody wants to oil a snake these days.

You might save some money by just getting some gaiters. I've considered them for up here at the cabin.
Glad you're ok after the bite!

Buy a good pair of snakeskin cowboy boots. That will give them the message.

Re: Snake boots?
I have had a pair of calf high snake boots that I bought from Herters since the late sixties . They are very thick leather and I always wore them when hunting in Florida and Ga. If I kept them greased up they would enable me to wade shallow water and still have dry feet, Most likely they were made by Redwing. Still have them and they still fit.I came very close to trying them out in Arkansas but my 870 took care of the Cotton Mouth first.

I don't know anything about snake boots. I've heard of them, but I don't think I've ever seen any.

Cheaper than boots, and waterproof.

Too late. I dropped by a local boot store this morning just to look, and ended up walking out with a pair of Rocky Snake Boots.

I’ve owned a few pairs of Rocky hunting boots over the years and I have nothing but good things to say about Rocky.

You know what's next my friend...
A picture... Get the pup to take a pic of your snake boot clad legs.
Oh, if you can toss in a snake striking, that would be great....
Just kidding, it might be rude and aim higher.

Sorry, after all the weight I gained last year hanging around the house, I don't have a wide enough angle lens to get everything in frame.

I know the feeling. I had my annual physical this past month and the doc said everything looked good.... "About your weight...
"Come on Doc, I could stand to lose about eighty to get back to my Marine Corps weight, but that ain't gonna happen. Thirty is reasonable. I'll give er a shot."

Re: Snake boots?
Turned the corner headed to Home Depot this morning and this guy was crossing the road. Note the diamond shaped head and the Hour Glass markings on his back. Yup, copperhead. He looks dark in the pic because he is in the shadows of the overhanging trees but he's actually fairly light colored. I only shot him with the cell phone camera. On the way home I noticed the guy in the truck behind be ran him down... He had kids in the truck... guess he didn't like copperheads in the street in front of his house.
I didn't mind snakes around our place, but I didn't want venomous snakes around our farm in VA when we had kids at home either. IT was ILLEGAL to kill any snake in VA, even venomous ones. When I worked for Fish and Game I questioned a warden about that... pointing out that those with small children would have a real problem with it. "Then they shouldn't brag about it on Fakebook when they do it."

Re: Snake boots?
This was crossing the road this evening when we went on our "round the block" in the Ranger. I'm not kidding when I say they are big enough to see when you are zipping along at thirty to thirty-five mph. If he sat on my iphone eleven, he'd be touching the sides. (Okay, but NOT the top and bottom. I guess he'd be an inch and bit short both directions.
It's my understanding that they would rather run than bite and if they do, they don't hurt you that badly... but they might make Miss T hurt herself, and I have had smaller spiders leave nasty sores behind after a bite. I don't want to give this'n a chance.

Wow. The only one I've ever seen in the wild was when I lived in Southern California. Scary looking things, but kinda like you said, I've read that they are relatively harmless.
