Lever fun at the range today.

Post by fortyshooter » Mon Apr 03, 2023 7:52 pm

Took my Henry 357 out today for some target fun and also brought along an old soccer goal net frame that I picked up from the local Parks and Rec.
My range neighbor Dave stopped by with a couple of vintage lever rifles....his Winchester 30-30 from 1970's and his grandpa's 1899 Savage .303.Now Dave said he hadn't shot the Savage in 30 years or more and it looked it too with some green crud in the muzzle end of bore but we could see daylight thru the bore. I stood back when he got ready to fire the first round!
The old Savage was shooting a bit to the right so we adjusted the windage and it was shooting okay after that. That round hit hard on the steel targets
from only 45 yds almost spinning them around the bar. His 30-30 shot good to using some old 30-30 ammo from years back...check the price on the box! :o
My Henry 357 shot very well with the mild 158 gr. MB bullet load using 6 gr. of Power Pistol or the 180 Pug load with 11.5 of 2400 powder which hits hard. Will be making up some other target hangers to use instead of the chain at some point.
Enjoyed a good time shooting today with my neighbor Dave!

Sounds like a fun day forty. All nice looking levers there. That '99 looks like it could tell a few stories! And that price on 30-30!
