A little safety reminder - Clearing a gun

Post by GunnyGene » Sun Nov 27, 2022 10:35 am

I know we are all safety conscious and know how to properly "show clear". But it is gift giving season, so what about that family member you are giving their first gun to for Xmas? They are going to be excited, but don't let that excitement get in the way. Be a good teacher. :)

But Dad, you just checked it!

Thanks. Always bears repeating. I've seen firsthand how a beginner doesn't understand the concept of clearing a gun, especially a semi-auto.

Good message for Alec Baldwin. Don't take someone else's word for it...Unfortunately, too late.

I have seen several gunshops with gallon jars/jugs or even a small aquarium on the counter beside the register. They contained a hodgepodge of live ammo, and had a 3x5 card posted on the outside. The cards all said something like:

"Don't worry, I cleared it already."

Find another chambered round, drop it in the display.
You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

My LGS has a hole in the wall from a customer with a handgun they wanted to sell, happened long before I arrived here but they still talk about it.
