Christmas in July, 1800 style
Well it felt like Christmas after shooting both of these today. Zero wind at all. Makes a huge difference. 55F this morning at 8am when I shot these. Really trying to challenge myself with smaller targets or longer distances, or both....
Frontier .50 cal
50 grains Triple 7
.490 ball
.015 patch
50 yds off hand!!!
and best of all....100 yds off hand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 6 shots all in the black...Getting the primitive sights figured out after many, many trips to the range with this rifle....
Shoot safe, RR

Some more beautiful work, RR. Glad you got some nice weather, to boot.
For sure, these old eyes need a little help on 2" bulls at 50 yards.

Do you swab between shots or keep stuffin em in the muzzle? Good shooting at both distances.

I can get about 6 shots off with Triple 7 before I run a couple of dry patches down the barrel. Then another 6 or so...

Nice shooting again glad you got out. Im having trouble even showing my other guns much interest. BP has take over. @straycat. I dont swab at all between shots. I use Mr Flintlocks patch lube and RR uses prelubed patches. Or at least he was using them.
Don't let the old man in

Luck is winning the Lotto. Hitting the bullseye at 100 yards takes skill.RanchRoper wrote: ↑Mon Jul 26, 2021 11:49 amHaha…had no idea until I walked out there. That is truly a lucky shot.

Please stop posting stuff like this! I'm really inspired and always loved the flintlock rifles. Last thing I need right now is another weapon type lol
Excellent shooting, my friend! You're probably still grinnin', aren't ya?
