People are Strange

Post by Headhog » Wed May 19, 2021 9:10 pm

I went to the range today to do some load testing. Being the old (free) brass hound I am, I usually check the rifle range for spent brass left by the non-reloaders. Very slim picken's today, but as I was heading back to the truck, I looked into the trash barrel (It was almost empty). Something shiny caught my eye and I fished it out. Turned out to be a fairly new looking stapler (heavy duty) and two almost full boxes of staples.

I tried the stapler and It was jammed. So I tossed it into my truck and headed over to the pistol range. When I was all done with my load testing, I took a quick look at the stapler. Between my pocket knife and small screwdriver from the shooting bag, I clear the jam. Reloading staples and a quick test and all is good.

Why would someone toss out a perfectly good stapler and staples that took only 5 minutes and some common sense to fix? :o

They may not have wanted to be caught with a stapler that holds more than 10 staples. ;)

Were the serial numbers filed off of it? May be it was used in the November election.

in many ways, we've become a disposable society ... as such many of us are conditioned to replace instead of repair many things

Keep checking that range! Maybe you'll be lucky enough to find his firearm on a day he can't hit the target.

Sorry, didn't mean to cause anyone physical or emotional distress. I should have realized it is a touchy subject. Sometimes I forget that not everyone enjoys the stapler freedom we have in MS. ;)

One man's trash is another man's treasure. That seems to be a way of the world. I don't mind fixing things. Some people rather not bother. As you pointed out, some nice things can be had for a little amount of effort. Kind of like why some people rather lease vehicles for 3 years and others prefer keeping one for about 20 years (I am going on 16 years for one). But to each, their own.

I have a 2006 Tacoma that I got in 2005. It has about 175K on it. Other then routine maintenance and recalls, it has been trouble free. So, you should get many years of service, without having to create words.

Exactly. We had an ‘01 TRD Off-road double cab. I wish we’d never sold it.
