Why would this very basic bullet be $$$$

Post by fortyshooter » Sun Jan 03, 2021 3:38 pm

Was looking at Speer bullets and most any jacketed .45 cal bullet is "Unavailable" but they do have these but the price is crazy even for 500!
Luckily I have an old box of them. To pricey to shoot you think? I save them for my 1858 Remington loads.https://www.speer.com/bullets/handgun_b ... -4691.html

I could never find the .452 Gold Dots or Deep Curl bullets even during the "good ol' days" !

its going to take the market a while to stabilize .... as one who is partial to Nosler bullets, I've been delighted to see that Shooter's Pro Shop (my main source) has been able to maintain a decent inventory and hasn't jacked up their prices .... as with every supplier, they may or may not be out of stock on some items but they still run special sales ....

looking at the picture it looks like those bullets were tumbled with 1" ball bearings. T&B bullets make a nice bullet and they cost less, I think they even offer poly coated bullets
I love my country but I fear my government

Yes, they do offer coated bullets. Hi-Tek. I believe you're the one who told us about T&B bullets. Thanks!

Those particular Speer bullets are of a soft swaged lead with a special coat of lube. Designed for typical .45 ACP speeds or also work great for Cowboy Action .45 Colt loads. Guess they look a bit beat up from handling. They were expensive even before the covid ammo shortage and that price shown direct from Speer.
They shoot great though out of my Remington 1858 with either Black MZ type BP or Red Dot powder. Glad I have a box of them already.
