After finishing up shoveling gravel for the shed floor project I relaxed for a while and took some target shots with my Ruger Alaskan.
Load was the .45 Colt 250 gr. XTP loaded with 20 gr. of Alliant 2400. Target was 20 ft. and only double action trigger pulls.

Not bad after a days work and a little helper wasn't fazed at all with the bark of the big dog Alaskan. He started running around trying to tree squirrels
thinking I was hunting!! Was a great afternoon!

Note... those two perfectly round holes one in upper left of center and the other far right were from another use.
The XTP's leave a slightly ragged hole.

You did well, forty. Nice DA target.I would have a very hard time passing up an Alaskan in 45 Colt. All I ever see are the 44 mags. I love the 44 mag cartridge, too, but it's not a 45 Colt, right?

Ditto, I used to be able to do that, but now houses, people everywhere. Too crowded. Had to call a halt. Puts a serious damper on my target shooting.

Well the place is out in a rural farm district and there are other homes around but not jammed together. Other than that just farm fields and woods.
However when someone new moves in we introduce ourselves and discuss which directions our berms are and where each other is shooting.

I recently visited the new guy who bought the homestead behind and to the left of my place and he was glad to have the discussion.
He wants to build a range also and he has the big tractor and equipment to do it. He offered to help anyone who wants to build up their berms.

So far it's a nice area.
