I know that feeling . The first hunting I ever did was when living in Illinois and that was for pheasant. We hunted mostly on state run preserves that were stocked with pen raised birds. Those birds would not get up until you nearly stepped on them which would startle the heck outa ya. A good bird dog prevents that from happening.

I didn’t know this. Like here we call a Ruff Grouse a Fool Hen as sometimes they just hang around begging to become tonight’s dinner. However, it seems like when deer hunting and trying to move as quietly as possible they will always do a very noisy flush and startle the crap out of me.

The difference between pen-raised pheasants and the real thing (wild ones) is similar to the difference between the paper airplane you made in 3rd grade and an F-35 fighter jet.

Yeah, those birds are as dumb as rocks out here in the West –– in fact, you can kill them with rocks if you possess a bit of throwing talent.

Evidently it's a totally different story back East, where they're revered and it's tough to get one up in gun range.

Back in 2009 or about, the County I formerly lived in elected a new County Judge.
It was the first time in half a century that "common citizens" were issued concealed carry pistol licenses.
Formerly, the only common citizen pistol license choices were "Target Shooting & Hunting" and "Premises" for business owners.
Only the doctors carrying "narcotics" along with the wealthy, and the politically connected were entrusted with concealed carry.
The doctors, lawyers, and the big high powered politicians.

When I was issued my concealed carry license, I already had multiples of suitable handguns.
Except for something very small.
I bought a brand new Seecamp pistol in 32ACP and joined the now defunct Seecamp Forum for learning about my new pistol.
There already was a Forum Member there on the Seecamp Forum with a Username of Seecamp.
The rest is history!

Well, I could have sworn I answered this at some time. Anyway, my big hobby in the 90s and early 2000s was SCUBA diving for artifacts. I did some volunteer work in underwater archeology and was particularly attracted to native american artifacts, especially paleo. Now, paleo artifacts are extremely rare. I was a little obsessed with finding them. I managed to find 4 paleo stone tools during my diving years. 2 Clovis points, 1 Redstone and a Suwanee. The count goes up if you include Dalton points. When I first joined a woodworking forum I needed a forum name, and my daughter suggested Clovishound, since I was always sniffing after Clovis points in the rivers.
