snow and single digit night temps are supposed to move in around midnight .... I turn 80 later this year and I've only seen snow on the beach a couple of times .... they are calling for a foot or better of snow at the Outer Banks .... the forecast down there includes a "white-out blizzard" warning .... that is the first ever such warning down there
there isn't a "snow plow" in this state .... plenty of dump trucks with scrape blades but no snow plows .... our only effective snow removal is for warmer temps to move in
Happy New Year All!
The big winter storm a comin!
Re: The big winter storm a coming out.
Front end loaders, road graders and other heavy equipment will do in a pinch. Be safe, be careful. With luck it won't be as bad as they are predicting.

North Carolina utilizes a substantial fleet of snow plows and, as of January 2026, the NCDOT has over 1,250 dump trucks equipped with plows, spreaders, and roughly 900+ additional contract trucks available for winter weather events.
Key details regarding NC snow removal:
Operations: The NCDOT treats roads with brine, salt, and sand, focusing on primary routes (interstates, major highways) first before moving to secondary, lower-volume roads.
Resources: There are over 2,100 trained employees and 200+ motor graders prepared to manage snow and ice.
Tracking: Some areas, such as Greensboro, offer online trackers for snow removal progress.
Emergency Measures: Crews often work 12-hour, 24-hour shifts to clear major routes, especially in the Piedmont and mountain regions.
While the state is prepared for snow, the amount of winter weather can vary significantly, with less snow on average over the last four decades.
UPDATES: OR passes 114, "one of strictest gun control measures in U.S." https://henryrifleforums.com/viewtopic. ... 34#p213234

A snowstorm is MUCH more manageable than an ice storm. I personally am not really worried about our approaching storm.
20 years in the Chicago area hardened me against winter weather.
Consider our members up north. This is routine for them.
I DO, hate Winter though.

We had 70 today in Pinellas County Florida but that's about it for several days as strong winds and low temps are coming. If we have rolling blackouts like we had in Christmas 83 then I have two cellulose oxidizers for backup heat.
