It sorta sneaks up on you. I really, personally, don't believe in the term, ''Golden Years."

Yes, me too. Also old enough to remember when there were no computers, cell phones and even no color TVs (we got a B&W TV in 1948). Don't forget gasoline for 25¢/gal. and newspapers for a nickel.

Old...just plain old. Or anyway that's how I feel. 10 years ago I painted houses for a living and ran up and down 32 and 40 foot ladders just like a monkey on a tree. Now my knees and back hurt all the time. Not from the ladders I don't suspect but just from plain old aging. SUCKS.

What you said has a measure of good truth, Dutch. I've heard a term that more closely describes this elder time, as opposed to the "Golden Years."

Rather than "Golden Years," the years could be considered the "Tarnished Bronze" years. And anyone that owns a Henry rifle decked in bronze will appreciate that expression, and know exactly what it means! ;) It takes some determined work to remove the patina and return to the golden shine.

It doesn't mean necessarily that the Tarnished Bronze years are bad; it's just the way of it. :)
