with it ejecting new brass with no problem and locking up with fired brass, expansion has to be an issue .... seems to me if its possible to hone out the chamber to where it can accommodate the expansion, that should take care of it ....

Or go in the chamber with a tapered reamer. The problem is the original Winchester High Wall was never designed for straight wall cartridge.
My 1873 Uberti Winchester rifle has the advantage of the lever bolt with plenty of stroke to pull out the spent brass.
A .005 taper up to 1/8 th inch of case mouth might be all that's needed without making chamber to big at the end.

I’ll see what the gunsmith thinks. As several internet searches have produced the same “that’s the way it is” responses, it’s likely guys way more gun savvy than me have already pondered it to death.
Thanks all.
Thanks all.

Re: Oct 31st 1885
pondering it is one thing, correcting it is another .... the company can't seriously believe its OK for shooters to have to drive the empty case out by sticking some sort of rod down the barrel .... has anyone come up with a solution

RR, I could offer some more pondering, such as polishing the chamber, based on what has worked for me, but the fact is, sometimes it hasn't worked. I think a trip to a gunsmith is in order. That's a tough thing to have to do with a new gun, but it sure beats guessing, er, pondering.

When I see him I will ask. I am going to shoot it a bunch and see how it goes. If it needs breaking in I am just the guy for the job. Like I said, it's not a deal breaker for me. And the hassle of sending it back to Dixie Gun Works across the border? No thanks. If I have to get it worked on here, I will but let's see how it goes.
Maybe it needs some bore butter...

A little dab of good ol' STP would have that round slicker than a slippery eel!

Ok - the extractor doesn’t work. It is a single shot. I hunt with a single shot (I have a couple of them) and a muzzle loader. Can’t remember a time when I wished I had a bolt gun or something for a quick follow up shot.
That 200 yard target. One knee. Peep sight. My goodness you “two” can shoot.
This is just an opinion from an OK shooter at best but I don’t think I’d let anybody breathe on it. If someone said to me “I have the perfect rifle for you but there’s one problem....” and then showed me YOUR target at 200, shot off one knee with irons my check book would already be out. Again - this is just my opinion.
