A Boot Knife Build
Re: A Boot Knife Build
It’s pretty amazing how after the first application of the yellow dye which is not very attractive in the end the sheath is beautiful. Love the tooling too, very intricate.

The final view, after the antiquing and the finish and waxing. Done. Miss Tina will work it hard, and if it needs replaced, I'll make a new one. Same with the knife, she and my daughter USE them.
The very first knife I made, was for my daughter. She called and wanted me to make one for her. I told her I had never made one. She laughed, said one word. "YouTube" and hung up. I went to woodcraft and bought a kit. I made her this knife.
She used it around the farm every day for years, then called and asked if I could make a sheath. I told her I didn't know how to ... she said "YouTube" and hung up. I watched you tube and called and told her I needed her knife. She said she mailed it after she hung up. It arrived looking like THIS....
I made my first sheath, and it wasn't half bad... I also refinished the knife for her. She said, "I knew you would."
I have a wife, and THREE daughters... and my dog is a female as well. (I have a son, but he is as independent as I am.)
That's ONE person who doesn't manipulate dad.)

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.
I don't look back at the things I can't do anymore with regret, I just look forward to the things I still can.

The way that knife looks as she returned it is the best testament of appreciation you could get. That thing has been around the block a time or three. Exactly how a working knife should be!

It went on her belt every morning when she started her day. She cut twine off hay bales, cut feed bags when the pull tabs broke, opened boxes from deliveries, and sometimes skinned things. She'd sharpen it when need be and give 'er a wash in the trough if the be blood. Yup, worked it hard. Still does.
