Re: Official 2016 Baseball Thread
Just got an alert from the MLB.com app that Tim Tebow launched the first pitch he saw in the Instructional League for a homer. I'm rooting for that guy to make it – I like what he stands for.

Two days left in the season and drama for the last wild card spot.

Last day of the season tomorrow and the Giants control their own destiny. Win and they play the Mets.
A loss and a Cardinal win then they play the Cards for the chance to play the Mets in the wildcard game.

Giants sweep = Playoffs with the Mets.
I had my doubts but they're going to the post season.

KC Royals ended their season today in 3rd place, a break-even .500 season, losing the last series to the 1st-place ALC Cleveland Indians.
After playing the last two years in the WS, and taking home the Championship trophy last year, this October will be most quiet here in KCMO.
For those Henry Folk whose team is still in their season, best of play all the way!
For those whose team is done for 2016, we can await the 2017 season while humming our baseball "theme song."
Here is the original version. Enjoy the hum!

Katie Casey was base ball mad.
Had the fever and had it bad;
Just to root for the home town crew,
Ev'ry sou Katie blew.
On a Saturday, her young beau
Called to see if she'd like to go,
To see a show but Miss Kate said,
"No, I'll tell you what you can do."
"Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd.
Buy me some peanuts and cracker jack,
I don't care if I never get back,
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
If they don't win it's a shame.
For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out,
At the old ball game."
Katie Casey saw all the games,
Knew the players by their first names;
Told the umpire he was wrong,
All along good and strong.
When the score was just two to two,
Katie Casey knew what to do,
Just to cheer up the boys she knew,
She made the gang sing this song:
"Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd.
Buy me some peanuts and cracker jack,
I don't care if I never get back,
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
If they don't win it's a shame.

That was nice, thanks. Yes there were a few scenarios today in regard to the Wild Card race but things got straightened out pretty quickly. I love that ONE game for the Wild Card for each league. Looking forward to the division series and the World Series! Maybe the Yanks will do better next year, and the Reds and Phillies also. Either way, baseball is my favorite sport and I am just a fan of the game since 1954. And yes, I hope your favorite team goes to the World Series!

When I was a kid my dad used to take me to Phillies games at the old, and now long gone, Connie Mack Stadium. We lived in Lancaster, Pa. and sometimes we would take the train to Philadelphia. Parking wasn't too great around the stadium. I think there is some kind of public park there now.

Yes, I agree, both of the Wild Card games were great games to watch!
Re: Official 2016 Baseball Thread
Lots of happy Giants, and Giant fans, at that 3-run, 9th inning homer!

Re: Official 2016 Baseball Thread
I missed it! The Giants spoiled the Pirates chances at a post season two years ago so this is old hat for them.
I was secretly hoping they would win considering the company I work for has one product line that is co-branded with the Giants logo and this will certainly help sales!

Go Giants. We loved that wild card game. Being from nor-cal, and living in the beautiful state of Tennessee we watch every game we can, and I think we enjoy them more since there few and far between. Now however the networks will, show them since they will be in the playoffs.

When it comes to the playoffs I usually will watch as many as I can regardless of who is playing.dasmoeturhead wrote:Go Giants. We loved that wild card game. I'm really surprised there's no chatter here about the game last night! I really though (along with millions of others) that the Giants had that game in the bag!

Re: Official 2016 Baseball Thread
I felt the same. I had been up until almost 3:00 AM eastern time watching the previous game when they won it in the 13th inning. Not being a Giants fan, I was not aware that relief pitching had been a problem for them all season, until I heard the announcers talking about it. Hopefully a good game tomorrow between the Dodgers and the Nationals.
