Shooting With Iron Sights
Re: Shooting With Iron Sights
See? It can be done. By mere mortals!
Re: Shooting With Iron Sights
Couldn't agree more with what was posted by Ditto1958.... Up to a point. I shot Hi-Power for a while, also CAS, and ML'ing. All with iron sights. But they all were fitted out with post front sights and not the gold bead that are prevalent on the Henry's. On the ML'er long rifle I made I kept moving the rear sight forward in order to get a decent sight picture. Something the old colonial boys did too. Along with a blade front sight.
A lot will depend on the game your playing. Hitting an 8* gong at 100 yds. is one thing. Hitting a 5/8* 10 ring with an x-ring hardly much bigger that the dot you put on a piece of paper with a pencil is something else. I like to use a scope, where I can, when working up loads and then switch over to whatever sight is applicable. If I get into competition with the Henry I'll definitely use an aperture for irons with a post front sight and whatever scope that's legal.

Re: Shooting With Iron Sights
Me too...I am really enjoying shooting off hand, and getting used to the open sights on the Big Boy.Catherine wrote:I like shooting with iron sights. I always shot my rifles using iron sights.
I don't like bench rest shooting either but I know people who love to shoot that way. I like to stand up to shoot and NOT lean on anything.
I PREFER iron sights. I am a very good shooter using iron sights.
I have worn eyeglasses since I was 5 years old. I wear bifocals now. I was always very nearsighted.
I have shot other people's firearms with scopes on them, adjusted for me, and I did not and still do not like it at all. I am not knocking people who use scopes. My MT husband hunts in various terrains and HE uses scopes on 'some' of his rifles but not on all of them. I do not hunt.
I shoot well using iron sights even at 65 years old. I no longer compete and I am no longer a high volume shooter. I have not owned or shot handguns for several years now.
