And meanwhile in NOLA. This is not going to sit well with the population, whether she invokes her newly acquired "power" or not. Some of those folks are going to be sticking pins in wax dolls. ;)
https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020 ... -firearms/

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell (D) signed a coronavirus emergency order last week allowing her to ban the sale and transportation of firearms.

She signed a follow-up proclamation on March 16, 2020, further emphasizing her emergency powers to “suspend or limit the sale, dispensing, or transportation, of alcoholic beverages.”

The declaration declaring the mayor’s power to restrict gun sales and transportation says she is “empowered, if necessary, to suspend or limit the sale of alcoholic beverages, firearms, explosives, and combustibles.”

On March 16, 2020, the Second Amendment Foundation responded to Cantrell’s claims of emergency powers over firearms by reminding her that they sued over Second Amendment infringement following Hurricane Katrina and will do so during the era of coronavirus if needed.

SAF executive vice president Alan Gottlieb said:

Following Hurricane Katrina, we sued the city when then-Mayor Ray Nagin’s administration began confiscating firearms from law-abiding citizens for no good reason. The federal court order the city to cease confiscations.

We sued New Orleans then, and we’ll do it again. The presence of a nasty disease does not suspend any part of the Bill of Rights, no matter what some municipal, state or even federal politician may think. While we certainly recognize the seriousness of this virus and its ability to spread rapidly, treating Covid-19 and taking steps to prevent it from infecting more people has nothing at all to do with the exercise of the right to keep and bear arms under the Second Amendment.

Gottlieb added, “People legally licensed to carry should not have their right to do so suddenly curtailed because some politician panicked. We didn’t allow it before, and we’re not going to allow it now.”

On March 14, 2020, Breitbart News reported that Champaign, Illinois, Mayor Deborah Frank Feinen (D) issued an emergency coronavirus order that gives her the power to halt ammunition and firearm sales in the city.

I think the gun shops are missing out on a business opportunity. They should start stocking and selling TP along with guns and ammo.

Here's the Proclamation. Not surprised the media didn't pick up on it. It's on the last page of the following (pdf from the Mayors office):

Thanks. I read that. The proclamation is "Subject to the provisions of Act 275 of 2006"...
ACT 275 (HB 760 Scalise) wrote:Prohibits the seizure of firearms from law-abiding citizens during a state of emergency. Allows law enforcement officers to disarm someone when the officer reasonably believes it is necessary for the protection of the officer or anyone else. If an arrest is not made or the weapon seized as part of a criminal investigation, the weapon must be returned

Yep. However there appears to be enough wiggle room in Act 275 (officer reasonably believes.......) for her to slip this through. Whether the State slaps her down or not remains to be seen.

.
In the followup proclamation (the one bretbart refers to), the mayor does not exercise the Homeland Security empowerment to restrict firearms.

Don't think an election will change anything since it's source is a Homeland Security granted empowerment in times of emergency.

Similar in Oregon.
On Thursday (March 11), Brown ordered all K-12 schools in the state to close through the end of March. On Monday (March 16), the governor banned public gatherings of more than 25 people for at least a month and ordered restaurants and bars to end dine-in services. State authorities are further advising that people ages 60 and over avoid gathering with more than 10 people through at least April 8.

An observation:

The global mortality rate (including China) for cases that have had an outcome (deaths+recoveries) now stands at 9%. A few days ago it was 6%.

In the US, it's now at 57%, but has been fluctuating around 50% +/- for a few days.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

So whatever happened to that 2.5% or 3.5% that the WHO and CDC always roll out? :?

Got our first case in MY County (Monroe) today! Sure wish they had been more precise, Monroe is a big county.

21 total for MS now. No outcomes yet.

Just found out that the Monroe case is a Tronox employee. The Tronox plant is in Hamilton - where I live - and about 2 miles from my house. I really wish we had found out about this last Wednesday when he was sent home with a fever. A lot of the employees eat lunch at either the only gas station or the one restaurant we have, and I patronize both almost daily.

Talk at work is they are going to close for a while. We have 230 employees, most on 1st shift, and our business is slowing down for now. We shall see. Bought a rear tine tiller today and going to plant a vegetable garden at my house, my older sister's and probably my niece's house. Don't know how long this could last but it will give my sister something to do to keep her out of mischief and food is always good to have around.

And I wonder where he caught it from? You can have it and spread it before symptoms show up
