Re: Corona Virus
Being of a military mind, I took a snapshot look at our very local situation with an eye towards community security. There's 7 key checkpoints we would need to secure and a couple small bridges we'd have to prepare to control vehicle traffic for about a 3 mile radius around the town (unincorporated) and 75% of the residents in our zipcode. We could do that with about 70 people,10 at each checkpoint on 3 shifts of 3 plus one extra to handle resupply, cook, etc. We'd also need another 50 or so for patrols in open and wooded areas and general random listening posts and mobile reinforcement if needed. Equipment is not a concern. Since this is primarily a farming community there is a lot of heavy equipment and materials readily available for roadblocks, bunkers and so on. Likewise arms and ammo. That many people actively doing security also wouldn't be a big strain. We have a small, but competent, medical clinic, although no local pharma so that is a worry. Might have to send out a raiding party or 2.
All that said, we'd have no chance against a military attack, but could probably fend off anybody else.

Re: Corona Virus
That reminds me. We'd have to run some secure comm between the checkpoints and hq. Which would mean old school - wire, field phones and runners.

If it gets bad, I’ll blow the culvert at the end of the cul-du-sac to keep the marauders out.
I’m actually trying to convince the wife that we should head to the mtns, but she says we aren’t supposed to travel.. I’ve tried explaining that isn’t the travel they are talking about.

Re: Corona Virus
Checked my pistol ammo levels today, just under 1000 9mm to a can, not sure how many 357 but the bigger one is close enough to 2000 38spl. Didn't get into the 100rd mtm boxes, at least a dozen of them. I think I am right for ammo what ever happens.

Re: Corona Virus
I have a decent supply of 9mm, .223/.556, 22lr and 12 gauge but wish I had more .357. It's too expensive for me to buy much right now. Some have mentioned seeing some ammo shortages but I was at a couple of LGS's today and they both had lots of ammo in most calibers, one had a large shelf of 22lr. Maybe the 22lr hoarders from the last shortage are the ones buying up all the toilet paper now.
I was at Costco this afternoon and other than TP and a few other items they were well stocked and it wasn't very crowded. I did hear that they had a large shipment of TP and people were lined up around the building waiting for them to open. Reminds me of the gas shortage back in the 70's, people were sitting in line for hours so they could buy a few gallons to top off their tanks.
